L'Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS) si realizza nell’ambito dell’attività di ricerca del Centro di studi filologici e linguistici siciliani e del Dipartimento di Scienze Umanistiche dell’Università di Palermo, con l'obiettivo è quello di documentare, tra il secondo e il terzo millennio, il repertorio linguistico dei siciliani. Speleothem records decadal to multidecadal hydroclimate variations in southwestern Morocco during the last millennium

Abstract This study presents the first well-dated high resolution stable isotope ( δ 18 O and δ 13 C ) and trace element (Mg and Sr) speleothem records from southwestern Morocco covering the last 1000 yrs. Our records reveal substantial decadal to multidecadal swings between dry and humid periods, consistent with regional paleorecords with prevailing dry conditions during the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA), wetter conditions during the second part of the Little Ice Age (LIA), and a trend towards dry conditions during the current warm period. Syönnösvaellus ja nopea kasvu ovat olennainen osa Atlantin lohen (Salmo salar L.) ekologiaa, niinpä kasvunopeuden selvittäminen on tärkeä osa kalatutkimusta. Tuottavimmat syönnösalueet tulisi tietää, jotta olisi mahdollista suojella villejä sekä kalastaa istutettuja lohia kestävän käytön periaatteella. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteina oli selvittää Itämeressä elävän villin ja viljellyn Atlantin lohen kasvunopeuden eroja vuosien ja merialueiden välillä. Spatial and temporal synchrony in abundance or survival trends can be indicative of whether populations are affected by common environmental drivers. In Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.), return rates to natal rivers have generally been assumed to be affected primarily by shared oceanic conditions, leading to spatially synchronous trends in mortality. Here, we investigated the existence of parallel trends in salmon sea survival, using data on migrating smolts and returning adults from seven Canadian populations presumed to share feeding grounds. Two small-scale surveys were conducted in a small river to examine the effects of physical habitat characteristics, spatial spawning redd distribution and abundance of older juveniles on the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) fry (age 0+) distribution 1) shortly after the emergence and 2) after the assumed main dispersal period of fry. In this work, we compared microwear features and enamel thickness from upper molars (M1 and M2) of extinct Xerinae squirrels from the Miocene of Namibia (Vulcanisciurus sp) and the Iberian Peninsula (Atlantoxerus nov. sp. and Heteroxerus rubricati). We also examined the microwear from young and adult specimens of one extant squirrel, Atlantoxerus getulus, to compare it with the extinct species. Both, the microwear features and enamel thickness showed that the Miocene African species presented a more abrasive diet than the Iberian ones.
Search for microscopic black holes in a like-sign dimuon final state using large track multiplicity with the ATLAS detector

A search is presented for microscopic black holes in a like-sign dimuon final state in proton-proton collisions at √s= 8 TeV. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1. Using a high track multiplicity requirement, 0.6±0.2 background events from Standard Model processes are predicted and none observed. This result is interpreted in the context of low-scale gravity models and 95% CL lower limits on microscopic black hole masses are set for different model assumptions.
