Petrological characterization of the mantle source of Mediterranean lamproites: Indications from major and trace elements of phlogopite
2013
Lamproites are among the most enigmatic mantle generated melts, and are typically abundant in phlogopite. We investigated the major and trace element chemistry of phlogopite crystals from Mediterranean lamproite occurrences in Spain, Serbia and Turkey. The most primitive lamproite samples were selected in order to evaluate the generation of the different phlogopite populations in their distinct mantle setting(s). Phlogopite hosted in Mediterranean lamproites can be grouped into different compositional arrays on the basis of their major element chemistry using Al2O3, FeOT and TiO2 concentrations. Contents of Cr, F and presumably Ti allow discrimination of the macrocrysts into phlogopite phen…
El marcaje revela un intercambio limitado de inmaduros de tortuga boba (<i>Caretta caretta</i>) entre regiones en el Mediterráneo occiden…
2008
Exchange of immature loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) between the northern and southern regions of the western Mediterranean was investigated using data obtained from several Spanish tagging programmes. Tagged turtles ranged in straight carapace length from 23.0 to 74.0 cm. Thirty-six turtles were recaptured after an average interval of 390.5±462.6 days (SD). As the mean dispersal distance (MDD) of a turtle population that spreads over the western Mediterranean would stabilize after 117 days (CI 95%: 98 to 149), two analyses were conducted that included data from turtles recaptured after 98 and 149 days respectively. In both analyses, turtles were recaptured more often than expected…
The end of the Upper Palaeolithic in the Mediterranean Basin of the Iberian Peninsula
2012
This paper presents a synthesis of the Magdalenian in the Mediterranean Basin of the Iberian Peninsula, with special attention to the lithic and bone/antler assemblages, rock art, economy and radiocarbon dates. The data obtained in Cendres cave, situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Iberian Peninsula, permit articulation of the discussion about the Lower, Middle and Upper Magdalenian in this region. Furthermore, the paper discusses the end of the Magdalenian sequence with the Epimagdalenian industries.
Hadwenius tursionis (Marchi, 1873) n. comb. (Digenea, Campulidae) from the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus (Montagu, 1821) in the western Medit…
1994
The taxonomic position of Synthesium tursionis (Marchi, 1873) (Digenea, Campulidae) is revised, based on material from 147 worms from four bottlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus stranded off the Comunidad Valenciana (Spanish western Mediterranean). The species is transferred to Hadwenius, as H. tursionis n. comb., and characterised by a high length/width ratio of the body, spinose cirrus and unarmed metraterm. Synthesium, a monotypic genus, becomes a synonym of Hadwenius. The intraspecific variation of some morphological traits is briefly discussed.
Degassing vs. eruptive styles at Mt. Etna volcano (Sicily, Italy). Part I: Volatile stocking, gas fluxing, and the shift from low-energy to highly ex…
2018
International audience; Basaltic magmas can transport and release large amounts of volatiles into the atmosphere, especially in subduction zones, where slab-derived fluids enrich the mantle wedge. Depending on magma volatile content, basaltic volcanoes thus display a wide spectrum of eruptive styles, from common Strombolian-type activity to Plinian events. Mt. Etna, in Sicily, is a typical basaltic volcano where the volatile control on such a variable activity can be investigated. Based on a melt inclusion study in products from Strombolian or lava-fountain activity to Plinian eruptions, here we show that for the same initial volatile content, different eruptive styles reflect variable dega…
Using On-Demand File Systems in HPC Environments
2019
In modern HPC systems, parallel (distributed) file systems are used to allow fast access from and to the storage infrastructure. However, I/O performance in large-scale HPC systems has failed to keep up with the increase in computational power. As a result, the I/O subsystem which also has to cope with a large number of demanding metadata operations is often the bottleneck of the entire HPC system. In some cases, even a single bad behaving application can be held responsible for slowing down the entire HPC system, disrupting other applications that use the same I/O subsystem. These kinds of situations are likely to become more frequent in the future with larger and more powerful HPC systems…
Sanctuaries and rural settlements along the Roman road Lyon-Trier on the civitates of the Lingoni
2015
From a memory of a master on the study of the material from the sanctuary of Beire-le-Châtel "The Pâtis the Letto" as well as new studies such as material from the fanum Lux "Le Bois Giraud", the objective of this thesis is to understand the people who live along the Roman road Lyon - Trier on the civitates of the Lingoni et go on these places of worship. The material found in these sanctuaries was confronted with one of the rural settlements to distinguish local attendance and passing travelers. Finally, the study allows to emphasize the role of settlements - administrative center of the city and secondary towns - and communication routes in the genesis of Lingones’ places of worship but a…
Shining castles and humans of metal/floral appearance ? metaphorical language in the Palaiologan romances Kallimachos and Velthandros
2019
About eight centuries after Heliodorus, the Greek novel resurfaced in the twelfth century, in Komnenian Byzantium, and again two centuries later under the Palaiologan dynasty. This latter literary revival was due to the political stability of the imperial Byzantine government, which promoted cultural production, rhetorical education, and patronage networks. Kallimachos and Velthandros, two Palaiologan romances presented as court literature, combine ancient and medieval tropes with rhetorical artistry to blur the boundaries between the artificial and the natural. Castles and objects made of precious metals thus resemble living, natural spaces, and human characters are portrayed in metallurgi…
Metafisica e poesia
2020
The essay shows, between autobiography and theoretical reflection, the link between metaphysics and poetry in the reflection of the philosopher Leonardo Samonà. The author uses the concept of "retraction" to cross both the vision of Samonà's metaphysics and the vision of poetry.
Complete genome sequence of the hydrogenotrophic Archaeon Methanobacterium sp Mb1 isolated from a production-scale biogas plant
2013
Methanobacterium sp. Mb1, a hydrogenotrophic methanogenic Archaeon, was isolated from a rural biogas plant producing methane-rich biogas from maize silage and cattle manure in Germany. Here we report the complete genome sequence of the novel methanogenic isolate Methanobacterium sp. Mb1 harboring a 2,029,766 bp circular chromosome featuring a GC content of 39.74%. The genome encodes two rRNA operons, 41 tRNA genes and 2021 coding sequences and represents the smallest genome currently known within the genus Methanobacterium. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V.
