Developing REE parameters for soil and sediment profile analysis to identify Neolithic anthropogenic signatures at Serpis Valley (Spain)

In this study, patterns of rare earth elements (REE) have been developed and applied for the first time to sediments and soils to identify anthropogenic or natural layers in profiles sampled at several Neolithic settlements in the Serpis Valley area (Alicante, Spain). Most of these sites are characterized by dark brown paleosols that are easily distinguishable from the light brown paleosols of the valley. To demonstrate whether these strata are anthropogenic or natural requires a better geochemical understanding of sediment. Increasing intensity of deimatic behaviour in response to repeated simulated attacks: a case study on the mountain katydid (Acripeza reticulata)

Abstract How and when deimatic behaviours are performed can change during encounters between predators and prey. Some predators attack repeatedly, investigating and manipulating prey, and in response, an individual’s deimatic behaviour may intensify or may diminish in favour of escaping. The presence of a resource can further force a trade-off between displaying and escaping. Here, we examined the intensity of the katydid’s deimatic behaviour, a visual display, the propensity of their escape response under repeated simulated attacks, and how these responses change in the presence of foraging resources. Bresaola made from Cinisara cattle: effect of muscle type and animal category on physicochemical and sensory traits

The physicochemical characteristics and sensory traits of Cinisara bresaola were investigated, to explore a new commercial opportunity for autochthonous dairy cattle farms. Semimembranosus, Semitendinosus and Biceps brachii muscles, from adult cows (AC) and grazing (GB) or housed (HB) young bulls of Cinisara breed, were processed to made bresaola. Differences due to animal category and muscle type were observed. Bresaola from AC was richer in fat and volatile organic compounds. The bresaola from Semitendinosus showed higher colorimetric parameters, fat and, when from grazing animals, Warner-Bratzler shear force than those made from other muscles. Localisée en limite SE de l’agglomération rémoise, sur la commune de Cernay-les-Reims, l’emprise de l’opération porte sur une surface de 11 300 m2. Cette neuvième concentration de vestiges, fouillée sur un parc d’activité, correspond à un établissement rural de l’Antiquité tardive, prolongé à l’époque médiévale par une zone d’activité artisanale. Ces deux occupations se développent le long d’un axe de circulation qui perdure vraisemblablement de l’Antiquité à la première guerre mondiale.
Political Action Beyond Resistance: Arendt and "Revolutionary Spirit" in Egypt

The article examines what it calls the "politics-as-resistance" frame in contemporary political theory, originating in the works of Michel Foucault and Judith Butler. This way of organizing political experience is contrasted with Hannah Arendt's political thought, particularly her writings on revolutionary action. Arendt's often overlooked – and partly unpublished – passages on virtù and fortuna are further suggested as important additions to her thinking on action. I argue that Arendt's "world-centric" approach can illuminate certain aspects of political experience that remain dimmed in the more subject-oriented politics-as-resistance frame. This research project examines socialized housing programs available to informal settlers in the megacity of Metro Manila, Philippines, and the socio-political and institutional relationships that enable or impede access to housing. Megacities are urban agglomerations with populations of over 10 million inhabitants and Asia and Africa contain some of the fastest growing cities in the world.
