Pulling Single Adsorbed Bottle-Brush Polymers off a Flat Surface: A Monte Carlo Simulation
2013
Force versus extension behavior of flexible chains and semiflexible bottle-brush polymers adsorbed from a good solvent on a planar substrate is studied by Monte Carlo simulation of the bond fluctua...
Effects of isoflurane on the Dnase I activity in an isolated enzyme preparation and on the Dnase I-G actin complex
1991
Effects of isoflurane on the DNase I activity in an isolated enzyme preparation and in the DNase I-globular (G) actin complex were investigated. DNase I, DNase I-G actin complex, and G actin were exposed to various (0.2–4.0 vol%) isoflurane concentrations for 180 min. Thereafter, DNase I activity was determined. DNase I activity was inhibited in relation to time and concentration of isoflurane exposure. At concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 vol% of isoflurane inactive DNase I was activated in the DNase I-G actin complex. The DNase I inhibitor G actin showed a reduced capability to inhibit DNase I following isoflurane exposure. Albumin can inhibit the DNase I inactivation possibly by com…
Interplay between Chain Collapse and Microphase Separation in Bottle-Brush Polymers with Two Types of Side Chains
2010
Conformations of a bottle-brush polymer with two types (A,B) of grafted side chains are studied by molecular dynamics simulations, using a coarse-grained bead−spring model with side chains of up to...
Berberido aetnensis-Crataegion laciniatae, new orophilous pre-forestal alliance of the class Rhamno-Prunetea
2011
In this paper the results of a phytosociological study carried out on some aspects of shrub vegetation of forest margins are presented, investigated in the higher belt of the Madonie Mts. (Northern-Central Sicily), referred to the order Prunetalia spinosae (Rhamno-Prunetea). Through comparison with other known coenoses in the central- southern part of the Italian Peninsula and in Sicily – especially, the associations of Berberidion vulgaris and those of Pruno-Rubion ulmifolii – a coenological and phytogeographical autonomy has been made evident and has resulted in the recognition of a new alliance, described under the name Berberido aetnensis-Crataegion laciniatae Gianguzzi et al., all. nov…
ChemInform Abstract: Chemical Compounds and Toxicological Assessments of Drinking Water Stored in Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Bottles: A Source …
2012
A declaration of conformity according to European regulation No. 10/2011 is required to ensure the safety of plastic materials in contact with foodstuffs. This regulation established a positive list of substances that are authorized for use in plastic materials. Some compounds are subject to restrictions and/or specifications according to their toxicological data. Despite this, the analysis of PET reveals some non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) produced by authorized initial reactants and additives. Genotoxic and estrogenic activities in PET-bottled water have been reported. Chemical mixtures in bottled water have been suggested as the source of these toxicological effects. Furthermo…
Between wor(l)ds... or completely lost in translation? O współczesnych "tłumaczeniach" tytułów megaprodukcji filmowych. Od "Wirującego seksu " (1987)…
2018
In the present article, entitled Between Wor(l)ds... OR completely lost in translation? On contemporary “translations” of the titles of film blockbusters. From “Wirujący seks” (1987) and “Minionki” (2010-2017) to “Przełęcz ocalonych” (2016), its author - being a philologist, a linguist, a translation-studies researcher, and a regular picturegoer, takes into practical consideration selected translations (mainly from English into Polish) of several dozen film blockbusters having been produced in the last 20 years. On the basis of available resources, which are relatively few regarding the matter in ąuestion, the author makes an attempt at identifying and defining a rangę of formal and informa…
TYPO-CHRONOLOGIE DES CÉRAMIQUES DU GROUPE RHIN-SUISSE-France -ORIENTALE (R.S.F.O.) DANS LA RÉGION DIJONNAISE :
2009
The archaeological site of the Pré-du-Plancher is located to the east of Dijon (Burgundy, Côte-d’Or), at the footof a limestone hill in the Basmont valley. This site, dated from the late Bronze Age, is the first to include a stratigraphicalsequence for this period in Burgundy. The settlement comprises of three buildings and several dumps containing potteryfinds. The study of the pottery as well as the site’s stratigraphy clearly identifies three chronological periods dating from Late Bronze Age IIb to Late Bronze age IIIa (French chronology) or Hallstatt A2 / B1 (German/Swiss chronology). Culturally, the site belongs to the Rhin-Suisse-France-Orientale group, the first phase showing influen…
Chrząszcze saproksyliczne Karkonoszy. Część I - wykaz gatunków
2016
Materiał i metody. Prace realizowano w latach 2013–2015 w 10 obiektach badawczych reprezentujących środowiska lasów regla dolnego, …
Chrząszcze (Coleoptera) Suwalskiego Parku Krajobrazowego: monografia
2020
The beetles of the Suwalski Landscape Park (NE Poland) were studied between the years 2006−2013. The park covers an area of 6338 ha. Various field methods were used including sweep netting, dip netting, catching by hand, investigation of potential foraging sites of saproxylic beetles, rearing of cambio- and xylophagous larvae from inhabited material and attracting to artificial light sources. On the basis of our field studies and literature data, 1052 beetle species from 70 families were recorded, of which 715 have not been previously reported in the Park. One species – Variimorda briantea – is new to the Masurian Lake Region. The most numerous families were: rove beetles Staphylinidae (208…
All-trans to 11-cis retinol isomerization in nuclear membrane fraction from bovine retinal pigment epithelium
1991
Abstract Isomerization of all-trans to 11-cis retinol has been studied in a membrane preparation from the nuclear fraction of bovine retinal pigment epithelium. When the nuclear membrane preparation deprived of endogenous retinoids is incubated with 4·5 μ m all-trans-retinol, the mean value calculated for the isomerase activity is 1·32 nmol 11-cis retinol formed hr−1 mg protein−1. Simultaneous formation of all-trans and 11-cis retinyl esters is also observed in the nuclear preparation. When assayed under the same experimental condition, RPE 150 000 g post-nuclear sediment shows about 70% of the isomerase activity found in the nuclear membrane fraction. Treatment of the nuclear membrane frac…
