AbstractThe translatability of William Shakespeare’s titillating puns has been a topic of recurrent debate in the field of translation studies, with some scholars arguing that they are untranslatable and others maintaining that such an endeavour implies a divorce from formal equivalence. Romanian translators have not troubled themselves with settling this dispute, focusing instead on recreating them as bawdily and punningly as possible in their first language. Periodic and quasi-periodic orbits of the dissipative standard map

We present analytical and numerical investigations of the dynamics of the dissipative standard map. We first study the existence of periodic orbits by using a constructive version of the implicit function theorem; then, we introduce a parametric representation, which provides the interval of the drift parameter ensuring the existence of a periodic orbit with a given period. The determination of quasi--periodic attractors is efficiently obtained using the parametric representation combined with a Newton's procedure, aimed to reduce the error of the approximate solution provided by the parametric representation. Mucocele of the dorsal surface of the tongue : a case report

Mucoceles represent one of the most common lesions of the oral cavity, developing as a result of saliva accumulation. The most frequent affected area is the lower lip, followed by floor of mouth, ventral tongue and buccal mucosa. Despite numerous reports of mucoceles originating on the ventral surface of the tongue, only scarce cases of such a lesion identified on the dorsal tongue surface have been described. The goal of this paper is to consider the challenges which Ugandan children experience in beginning to learn to read. The paper demonstrates that there are disparities between rural government and rural private school approaches to reading and between rural and urban schools. The disparities arise from the uneven ways in which the language-in-education policy is being implemented and the variation in the nature and quality of the reading pedagogy in the early years. Material and Methods A study was made of 412 patients with oral leukoplakia, analyzing the corresponding clinical factors and histopathological findings; assessing associations between the different clinical presentations and epithelial dysplasia; and evaluating the factors influencing malignant transformation of the lesions. Higher physical fitness levels are associated with less language decline in healthy ageing

Healthy ageing is associated with decline in cognitive abilities such as language. Aerobic fitness has been shown to ameliorate decline in some cognitive domains, but the potential benefits for language have not been examined. In a cross-sectional sample, we investigated the relationship between aerobic fitness and tip-of-the-tongue states. These are among the most frequent cognitive failures in healthy older adults and occur when a speaker knows a word but is unable to produce it. We found that healthy older adults indeed experience more tip-of-the-tongue states than young adults. The lost mother tongue : An interview study with Finnish war children

This article presents the third study of an interview investigation concerning 10 Finnish war children who were evacuated during the World War II to Sweden and who did not return to live in Finland after the war. The focus is on how they remembered or did not remember their early experiences of displacement and on how they expressed thoughts about their childhood and their adult life. We found that all of them as adults still bore signs of trauma. The younger the children were at the time of the evacuation, the more difficult or even impossible it was for them to think or fantasize about the past.
