Segmentation techniques based on active contours algorithm are widely used in medical imaging. Unfortunately, they require a lot of parameters to be used and this can rep- resent an issue for those physicians with not much informatics skills. This paper proposes a software tool which allows to segment multiple slice can differ organ extraction setting a small number of parameters. Moreover, the tool offers the functionality to perform a multiple segmentation the same time, so that an entire volume composed by hundreds slices can be segmented.

The BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters) procedure of soil hydraulic characterization appears promising for intensively sample field areas with a reasonable effort both in terms of equipment and time passed in the field. Two alternative algorithms, i.e. BEST-slope and BEST-intercept, have been suggested to determine soil sorptivity and field-saturated soil hydraulic conductivity from a simply measured cumulative infiltration curve. Abstract Different types of tools, software and empirical methods to size and assess the performance of solar thermal systems are available today. A quick and easy-to-use graphical tool is proposed here. It is based on a single diagram, called a nomograph, which embeds technical and economic information, allowing the optimisation of the size and performance of a solar thermal system starting from the main input parameters, such as the specific costs of the system and the auxiliary fuel. Tool Path Design in Friction Stir Welding of AA6082-T6 Aluminium Alloy

In the paper, a variation of the Friction Stir Spot Welding (FSSW) process has been considered. In particular, a particular tool path is given after the sinking phase nearby the initial penetration site. The process mechanics was highlighted and the joint strength was considered at the varying of the most relevant process parameters. Furthermore macro and micro analyses were developed in order to highlight the process mechanics and the local material microstructure evolution. The investigated technology appears a promising joining technique in order to develop effective spot joints.
Using mathematical morphology for unsupervised classification of functional data

This paper is concerned with the unsupervised classification of functional data by using mathematical morphology. Different morphological operators are used to extract relevant structures of the functions (considered as sets through their subgraph representations). These operators can be considered as preprocessing tools whose outputs are also functional data. We explore some dissimilarity measures and clustering methods for the classification of the transformed data. Our approach is illustrated through a detailed analysis of two data sets. These reviews ultimately guide clinicians and stakeholders in health-related decisions. However, the informativeness and quality of evidence synthesis inherently depend on the quality of what has been pooled into meta-research projects.
