Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Decays of Top Quarks inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2009
We report on the first direct search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. The search uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb{sup -1} collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab, and looks for a resonance in the invariant mass distribution of two jets in the lepton+jets sample of t{bar t} candidates. We observe no evidence of charged Higgs bosons in top quark decays. Hence, 95% upper limits on the top quark decay branching ratio are placed at {Beta}(t {yields} H{sup +}b) < 0.1 to 0.3 for charged Higgs boson masses of 60 to 150 GeV/c{sup 2}, assuming {Beta}(H{sup +} {yields} c{bar s}) = 1.0. The upper…
Weak Mixing, CP Violation and the Standard Model
1990
These lectures summarize experimental information on weak couplings of quark flavours from weak decays and weak production of heavy flavours and the relation of the observed direct CP violation to a non-trivial phase in the quark mixing matrix. The interest in this field is twofold: on the one side, we can measure precisely the parameters of the standard model in its own framework; on the other side, any inconsistency amongst these measurements or evidence for any process forbidden in the standard model will lead beyond that model. The outline of these lectures is the following: 1. Weak Mixing of Quarks 1.1 Kobayashi-Maskawa-Matrix 1.2 Experimental Constraints on the KM Matrix 1.3 Allowed R…
Measurements of the charge asymmetry in top-quark pair production in the dilepton final state ats=8 TeVwith the ATLAS detector
2016
Measurements of the top--antitop quark pair production charge asymmetry in the dilepton channel are presented using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 from pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s√=8 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Inclusive and differential measurements as a function of the invariant mass, transverse momentum, and longitudinal boost of the tt¯ system are performed both in the full phase space and in a fiducial phase space closely matching the detector acceptance. Two observables are studied: AllC based on the selected leptons and Att¯C based on the reconstructed tt¯ final state. The inclusive asymmet…
Search for a Supersymmetric Partner to the Top Quark in Final States with Jets and Missing Transverse Momentum ats=7 TeVwith the ATLAS Detector
2012
A search for direct pair production of supersymmetric top squarks ((t) over tilde (1)) is presented, assuming the (t) over tilde (1) decays into a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle, (chi) over tilde (0)(1), and that both top quarks decay to purely hadronic final states. A total of 16 (4) events are observed compared to a predicted standard model background of 13.5(-3.6)(+3.7) (4.4(-1.3)(+1.7)) events in two signal regions based on integral Ldt = 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collision data taken at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. An exclusion region in the (t) over tilde (1) versus (chi) over tilde (0)(1) mass plane is evaluated: 370 1) 10) similar to 0 GeV while m((t…
Highlights of top quark cross-section measurements at ATLAS
2017
The highlights of the measurements of top quark production in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider with the ATLAS detector are presented. The inclusive measurements of the top-pair production cross section have reached high precision and are compared to the best available theoretical calculations. The differential cross section measurements, including results using boosted top quarks, probe our understanding of top-pair production in the TeV regime. The results are compared to Monte Carlo generators implementing LO and NLO matrix elements matched with parton showers. Measurements of the single top quark production cross section are presented in the t -channel and s -channel…
Search for Pair Production of a Heavy Up-Type Quark Decaying to aWBoson and abQuark in thelepton+jetsChannel with the ATLAS Detector
2012
A search is presented for production of a heavy up-type quark (t') together with its antiparticle, assuming subsequent decay to a W boson and a b quark, t'(t) over bar' -> W(+)bW(-)(b) over bar. The search is based on 1.04 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Data are analyzed in the lepton + jets final state, characterized by a high transverse momentum isolated electron or muon, high missing transverse momentum, and at least three jets. No significant excess of events above the background expectation is observed. A 95% C.L. lower limit of 404 GeV is set for the mass of the t' quark.
Heavy Quark Symmetry and weak decays of heavy baryons
2008
I give an account of the physics ideas that go into the formulating of Heavy Quark Symmetry (HQS) and use HQS ideas to discuss various aspects of the weak semileptonic decays of heavy baryons.

2016
The differential cross-section for pair production of top quarks with high transverse momentum is measured in 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The measur ...
Search for Direct Top Squark Pair Production in Final States with One Isolated Lepton, Jets, and Missing Transverse Momentum ins=7 TeVppCollisions U…
2012
A search is presented for direct top squark pair production in final states with one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The measurement is based on 4.7 fb(-1) of data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Each top squark is assumed to decay to a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). The data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. Top squark masses between 230 GeV and 440 GeV are excluded with 95% confidence for massless LSPs, and top squark masses around 400 GeV are excluded for LSP masses up to 125 GeV.
Precision Measurement of the RatioB(t→Wb)/B(t→Wq)and Extraction ofVtb
2011
We present a measurement of the ratio of top quark branching fractions R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq), where q can be a d, s or b quark, in the lepton+jets and dilepton ttbar final states. The measurement uses data from 5.4 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We measure R = 0.90 +/- 0.04, and we extract the CKM matrix element |Vtb| as |Vtb| = 0.95 +/- 0.02, assuming unitarity of the 3x3 CKM matrix.
