Automated electron diffraction tomography - a new tool for nano crystal structure analysis

Automated electron Diffraction Tomography (ADT) comprises an upcoming method for “ab intio” structure analysis of nano crystals. ADT allows fine sampling of the reciprocal space by sequential collection of electron diffraction patterns while tilting a nano crystal in fixed tilt steps around an arbitrary axis. Electron diffraction is collected in nano diffraction mode (NED) with a semi-parallel beam with a diameter down to 50 nm. For crystal tracking micro-probe STEM imaging is used. Sensitivity of the C-band SRTM DEM Vertical Accuracy to Terrain Characteristics and Spatial Resolution

This work reports the results of a careful regional analysis of the SRTM DEM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission – Digital Elevation Model) vertical accuracy as a function of both topography and Land-Use/Land Cover (LULC). Absolute vertical errors appear LULC-dependent, with some values greater than the stated accuracy of the SRTM dataset, mostly over forested areas. The results show that the structure of the errors is well modeled by a cosine power n of the local incidence angle (θloc). SRTM quality is further assessed using slope and topographical similarity indexes. The results show a lower relative accuracy on slope with a R2 = 0.5 and a moderate agreement (Kappa ≈ 0.4) between SRTM- and …

Abstract Regions of vegetation transitions (ecotones) are known to be highly sensitive to climate fluctuations. In this study, the Cellular-Automata Tree Grass Shrub Simulator (CATGraSS) has been modified, calibrated and used with downscaled future climate scenarios to examine the role of climate change on vegetation patterns in a steep mountainous catchment (1.3 km2) located in Sicily, Italy.
