Pancreatic islet transplantation consists of replacing insulin-producing cells to restore normal glycemia in diabetic patients. This is a minimal invasive procedure that has been proved successful. Unfortunately unpredictability of islet transplant outcome remains a frustrating and costly issue limiting the clinical implementation of this procedure. Gludenās čūskas Coronella austriaca populācijas lielums un struktūra Ķemeru nacionālā parka Slokas un Vecajā purvos

Pētījums veltīts retai, aizsargājamai un maz pētītai Latvijā gludenai čūskai Coronella austriaca. Pētījuma mērķis – noteikt sugas populācijas lielumu un struktūru Ķemeru Nacionālā parka Slokas un Vecajā purvos. Kopēja populācija purvos ietver ap 200 īpatņu un sastāv no vairākām subpopulācijām ar nelielu īpatņu apmaiņu. Konstatēts neliels jauno īpatņu skaits, kas, iespējams, saistīts ar sugas zemo auglību vai lielo mirstību šajā vecumgrupā. Pieaugušo čūsku starpā tēviņu ir vairāk, kā mātīšu, iespējams, lielākas mirstības dēļ mātīšu grupā. Multi-elemental EDXRF mapping of polluted soil from former horticultural land.

The distribution of major and trace elements was systematically investigated by use of energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) on a former horticultural soil. The purpose of the study was to combine mapping of soil element concentration levels with multivariate statistics for characterisation of soil metal pollution in relation to previous and present land use. A 1-ha study site was chosen from a former horticulture where a previous preliminary survey indicated increased concentration levels of toxic elements.
