Why do People Attend Sport Events at Mature Tourist Destinations? An Analysis of Visitors’ Motivation to Attend the Windsurf World Cup on Sylt
2016
Abstract Introduction. Sport events have become a popular tool for the marketing of tourist destinations. In this regard, it has to be kept in mind that the effects events can generate for destinations largely depend on the motivation of the attendees. Building on this insight, the aim of this paper is to compare the motivational structures of two types of visitors (primary purpose event visitors and casual visitors) to the German island of Sylt during a Windsurf World Cup. This event-destination combination was chosen because it represents the tendency for popular tourist resorts to use small-scale sport events in their marketing efforts. Material and methods. The research was conducted us…
Il quartiere San Berillo a Catania. Appunti per una rinascita
2023

The urban revitalization of the coastal tourist destinations: An alternative for the Valencian Mediterranean tourist municipalities
2021

Halal Tourism in Bali, Why Not?
2019
The case studied in this chapter is about the discourse of halal tourism (HT) to be implemented in Bali, and to be proposed as layer in special interest tourism (SIT). It aims to offer a framework that attempts to demystify the halal dimensions attributed at non-Muslim destination. Literature review is used as method of the study. Discussion of this chapter lies on the basic elements to be attributed to HT and SIT as a basis to strengthen and to support the framework derived from the review literature and to clarify the record of literature which suggests economic benefits by providing HT in the non-Muslim-friendly destination and sustaining tourists' arrival by mapping SIT as priority in d…
Collaborative Policy Making and Stakeholder Engagement: A Resident–Based Perspective
2019
This study analyses residents’ perceptions and attitudes towards tourism and community engagement with tourism planning. Overall, residents think that the positive effects of tourism development outweigh the negative impacts. Despite this, they express concerns regarding the economic future of their area and that the tourism development in their area is mostly exogenously driven. Further, they do not feel involved in tourism planning but, quite surprisingly, they do not seems to be convinced that local authorities should encourage community participation in tourism decision making. Exploratory factor analysis and hierarchical and non-hierarchical cluster analysis were therefore conducted. F…

An empirical perspective is adopted by the authors, involving case studies, interviews, and field r…

Monitoring the Internal and External Loads of Young Team Handball Players during Competition
2021
This study aimed to examine the internal- and external-training-load (ITL and ETL, respectively) during a match of young handball players. Field testing included heart-rate monitoring (memory belt, Suunto) as a marker of ITL and accelerometry (motion-biosensor, Actical Respironcis, Philips) as a marker of ETL. Time motion analysis data were obtained by recording the player’s game activities and later analysed with the Matlab software package. T-test and Pearson-product-moment correlation coefficient were used to examine the differences and the relationship between variables collected in the study. The t-test analysis did not show significant differences between the total distance covered (2…
