Magnetic resonance image segmentation and heart motion tracking with an active mesh based system
2002
International audience; Abstract: The work presented here relates to a method fir motion tracking in sequences of medical images. The purpose is to. quantify the general motions and the local deformations of a beating heart during a cardiac cycle. In order to achieve this goal, we first tessellate the, first image of the sequence into triangular patches. A Delaunay triangulation is applied to find the optimal set of triangles describing this image, giving a mesh covering the organs. One imposes the contours of the organs to correspond to edges of triangles so that each part of the heart (left ventricle, right ventricle, myocardium) can he described as a different set of triai izles, each set…
An RF Wireless Power Transfer system to power battery-free devices for asset tracking
2019
Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) infrastructures are becoming more and more available and diffused. One major outcome is the development of new services that help to make everyday life easier and better. One of those to which this paper reserves special attention is asset tracking which refers to the method of tracking physical assets. This service is very well based on IoT infrastructure and, due to the enormous number of objects to be traced, desperately needs the availability of inexpensive tags with sensing capabilities, that can be conveniently monitored from a long distance and require no maintenance. For this, engineers are called to face very challenging i…
Primi risultati di un progetto di restocking di Testuggine
2013
First results of a restocking project for Testudo hermanni in a protected area in northwestern Sicily. A restocking project was carried out in the Zingaro Natural Reserve in order to counteract the Sicilian population decrease of Testudo hermanni. 50 tortoises coming from regional wildlife rescue centers were released after an acclimatization period in a controlled fence. 11 tortoises have been provided with radio-transmitters to follow the dispersal process and to monitoring the project progress. The obtained results have permitted to assess the useful area for the dispersion during the first year from the release and have showed the successful integration of the rescued tortoises with the…
2020
The Annunziata church was destroyed by the bombings of the Allies on May 9 1943 on the city of Palermo. However, important evidence remains of the church, built at the end of the 16th century and located near the San Giorgio gate: a 1832 drawing by Pierre-Joseph Garrez, preserved in Paris, at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the survey of the architect Nino Pollaci of the early twentieth century, a series of historical photos, the surviving architectural fragments such as the capitals and the painted wooden coffered ceiling, preserved in various Palermitan museums, and above all the bell tower, still the only trace on the site of the now disappeared church of the Annunziata. T…
Graph-based minimal path tracking in the skeleton of the retinal vascular network
2012
This paper presents a semi-automatic framework for minimal path tracking in the skeleton of the retinal vascular network. The method is based on the graph structure of the vessel network. The vascular network is represented based on the skeleton of the available segmented vessels and using an undirected graph. Significant points on the skeleton are considered nodes of the graph, while the edge of the graph is represented by the vessel segment linking two neighboring nodes. The graph is represented then in the form of a connectivity matrix, using a novel method for defining vertex connectivity. Dijkstra and Floyd-Warshall algorithms are applied for detection of minimal paths within the graph…
Trajectory tracking for a Non-Conventional UAV
2008
The aim of the present paper is the design of a flight control system for a Tandem – Canard UAV, useful in the whole flight envelope, both Out of Ground Effect (OGE) and In Ground Effect (IGE) conditions. Because of the particular arrangement of the studied aircraft, a general mathematical model has been built in order to obtain non-linear analytical equations for longitudinal aerodynamic coefficients both in OGE and in IGE flight. So the dynamic behaviour of the UAV may be studied during every flight phases i.e. in the whole range of altitude. To consider the strong variation of aerodynamic parameters due to the ground effect presence, a robust control technique (LQG/LTR) has been used to …
Deep Motion Model for Pedestrian Tracking in 360 Degrees Videos
2019
This paper proposes a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) for pedestrian tracking in 360◦ videos based on the target’s motion. The tracking algorithm takes advantage of a virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom (vPTZ) camera simulated by means of the 360◦ video. The CNN takes in input a motion image, i.e. the difference of two images taken by using the vPTZ camera at different times by the same pan, tilt and zoom parameters. The CNN predicts the vPTZ camera parameter adjustments required to keep the target at the center of the vPTZ camera view. Experiments on a publicly available dataset performed in cross-validation demonstrate that the learned motion model generalizes, and that the proposed tracking algo…
Video object recognition and modeling by SIFT matching optimization
2014
In this paper we present a novel technique for object modeling and object recognition in video. Given a set of videos containing 360 degrees views of objects we compute a model for each object, then we analyze short videos to determine if the object depicted in the video is one of the modeled objects. The object model is built from a video spanning a 360 degree view of the object taken against a uniform background. In order to create the object model, the proposed techniques selects a few representative frames from each video and local features of such frames. The object recognition is performed selecting a few frames from the query video, extracting local features from each frame and looki…
Exploiting Visual Saliency Algorithms for Object-Based Attention: A New Color and Scale-Based Approach
2017
Visual Saliency aims to detect the most important regions of an image from a perceptual point of view. More in detail, the goal of Visual Saliency is to build a Saliency Map revealing the salient subset of a given image by analyzing bottom-up and top-down factors of Visual Attention. In this paper we proposed a new method for Saliency detection based on colour and scale analysis, extending our previous work based on SIFT spatial density inspection. We conducted several experiments to study the relationships between saliency methods and the object attention processes and we collected experimental data by tracking the eye movements of thirty viewers in the first three seconds of observation o…
