L’idealismo trascendente tra Cusano e Leibniz

2013

I aim at demonstrating how both Nicholas of Cusa and Leibniz glean from the platonic school of thought the idealistic notion of ‘truth as expression’, orienting it towards the singularity of being. I will also reveal a second assumption derived from the philosophia perennis by both thinkers: the idea of philosophy as hypothetic and intersubjective undertaking. The theoretical results of this philosophical conceptualization are formulated in the name of the Possibility rather than in the name of Necessity. Under this shared perspective, Nicholas and Leibniz interpret the substantial forms (formae substantiales) as “unities without plurality”. It follows that the dialectic subjects can only b…

L'idealismo critico di Sartre

2020

Similarity in self-enhancement and self-transcendence values between young adults and their parents and friends

2012

This study investigates similarities between the 'self-enhancement' and 'self-transcendence' values of young adults and the corresponding values of their parents and friends, examining both mean level and correlational similarities. Participants included 193 Italian young adults along with their parents and friends (one male and one female) who each reported on their own self-enhancement and self-transcendence values. Results showed that young adults were more similar to their friends than to their parents on mean levels of values. Females reported valuing self-transcendence more and self-enhancement less than males. Considering correlational similarity, male young adults' self-transcendenc…

Dietrich von Hildebrand’s Criticism of Amoral Sex Education

2019

This article analyzes Dietrich von Hildebrand’s criticism of amoral sex education, which he regards as misleading and anti-educational in many crucial respects. Its content is misleading, because it separates human sexuality from its inherent connection with married love and thereby fails to do justice to the personal and intimate nature of sexuality. Its reductive and neutralizing approach not only fails to develop young people’s capacity for the transcendence implicit in moral agency, it also fails to provide the preconditions for the development of their authe-antic subjectivity. Instead of fostering objectivity, critical thinking and autonomy, amoral sex education promotes a normatively…

Triebsphäre und Urkindheit des Ich

2009

This paper explores Husserl’s late manuscripts in order to sketch a phenomenological description of drives and the dimension of passive constitution that belongs to them. Although this topic touches upon psychological issues, it will be shown that a specifically phenomenological approach allows us to recognize the transcendental significance of instincts. By means of the phenomenological reduction, drives reveal a peculiar subject, the ‘original child’, which is described not as a figure of developmental psychology but as a transcendental subject pre-forming the way the world appears to us. Drives work constantly and passively as obscure sources of sense, and the original child is always in…

'A Shared Reality between a Journalist and the Audience': How Live Journalism Reimagines News Stories

2021

Live journalism is a new journalistic genre in which journalists present news stories to a live audience. This article investigates the journalistic manuscripts of live journalism performances. With the focus on texts, the article reaches beyond the live performance to explore the wider implications and potentials pioneered by live journalists. The data were gathered from Musta laatikko (‘Black Box’) manuscripts, a live journalism production by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. The manuscripts were analysed as eudaimonic journalism through four conceptual dimensions: self-transcendence, autonomy, competence, and relatedne…

Pensare con gusto

2021

The greatest challenge for a human being lies in being able to understand, and indeed welcome, one’s own limits as an essential ingredient that determines, qualifies, and ultimately enriches the very tendency to overcome them. Any gesture that, in whatever way, aims to elevate us from our finite condition will be all the more successful in its intent the deeper that condition is imprinted in it.

Hermeneutics of Transcendence. Understanding and Communication at the Limits of Experience

2013

When access to shared realities is denied or blocked as in extreme situations that transcend everyday experience, a phenomenological-hermeneutic problem arises between the solitary Ego and its socially constituted meaning. With no action space to prove one’s own reality there lacks a counter-space to transcend the ambiguously irreal reality in order to perspectivize, to understand and reflect on it. Hermeneutics of transcendence analyse the experience of borders and limitations – not starting with an interrogation of constitutive grounds of shared social meaning but with structures to regain meaning in the socio-pathological structures of life excluding a Self from horizons of shared meanin…

Transcendentalism, mysticism and imagination in the poetic discourse of Jones Very, Wallace Stevens and Stanley Cavell

2019
