Chiral extrapolation and finite-volume dependence of the hyperon vector couplings

The hyperon vector form factors at zero momentum transfer, $f_1(0)$, play an important role in a precise determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{us}$. Recent studies based on lattice chromodynamics (LQCD) simulations and covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory yield contradicting results. In this work, we study chiral extrapolation of and finite-volume corrections to the latest $n_f=2+1$ LQCD simulations. Our results show that finite-volume corrections are relatively small and can be safely ignored at the present LQCD setup of $m_\pi L=4.6$ but chiral extrapolation needs to be performed more carefully. The lowest-lying baryon masses in covariant SU(3)-flavor chiral perturbation theory

We present an analysis of the baryon-octet and -decuplet masses using covariant SU(3)-flavor chiral perturbation theory up to next-to-leading order. Besides the description of the physical masses we address the problem of the lattice QCD extrapolation. Using the PACS-CS Collaboration data we show that a good description of the lattice points can be achieved at next-to-leading order with the covariant loop amplitudes and phenomenologically determined values for the meson-baryon couplings. Use of helicity methods in evaluating loop integrals: A QCD example

We discuss the use of helicity methods in evaluating loop diagrams by analyzing a specific example: the one-loop contribution to e+e- → qqg in massless QCD. By using covariant helicity representations for the spinor and vector wave functions we obtain the helicity amplitudes directly from the Feynman loop diagrams by covariant contraction. The necessary loop integrations are considerably simplified since one encounters only scalar loop integrals after contraction. We discuss crossing relations that allow one to obtain the corresponding one-loop helicity amplitudes for the crossed processes as e.g. qq → (W, Z, γ∗) + g including the real photon cases. Unidirectional reflection from an integrated "taiji" microresonator

We study light transmission and reflection from an integrated microresonator device, formed by a circular microresonator coupled to a bus waveguide, with an embedded S-shaped additional crossover waveguide element that selectively couples counter-propagating modes in a propagation-direction-dependent way. The overall shape of the device resembles a "taiji"symbol, hence its name. While Lorentz reciprocity is preserved in transmission, the peculiar geometry allows us to exploit the non-Hermitian nature of the system to obtain high-contrast unidirectional reflection with negligible reflection for light incident in one direction and a significant reflection in the opposite direction.
Type D vacuum solutions: a new intrinsic approach

We present a new approach to the intrinsic properties of the type D vacuum solutions based on the invariant symmetries that these spacetimes admit. By using tensorial formalism and without explicitly integrating the field equations, we offer a new proof that the upper bound of covariant derivatives of the Riemann tensor required for a Cartan-Karlhede classification is two. Moreover we show that, except for the Ehlers-Kundt's C-metrics, the Riemann derivatives depend on the first order ones, and for the C-metrics they depend on the first order derivatives and on a second order constant invariant. The present work constitutes an attempt to give the interpretation of de Broglie's internal periodic phenomenon which ascribes the frequencym0c2/h to each single entity in its eigensystem of coordinates. This phenomenon provides existence in principle of the ideal proper-time scale, making it possible to identify the geometric proper-time interval with a physically existing one, thus ensuring the realization of basic postulates of the relativity theory. The role of auxiliary states in state discrimination with linear optical evices

The role of auxiliary photons in the problem of identifying a state secretly chosen from a given set of L-photon states is analyzed. It is shown that auxiliary photons do not increase the ability to discriminate such states by means of a global measurement using only optical linear elements, conditional transformation and auxiliary photons.
