Problem Transformation Methods with Distance-Based Learning for Multi-Target Regression

Multi-target regression is a special subset of supervised machine learning problems. Problem transformation methods are used in the field to improve the performance of basic methods. The purpose of this article is to test the use of recently popularized distance-based methods, the minimal learning machine (MLM) and the extreme minimal learning machine (EMLM), in problem transformation. The main advantage of the full data variants of these methods is the lack of any meta-parameter. The experimental results for the MLM and EMLM show promising potential, emphasizing the utility of the problem transformation especially with the EMLM. peerReviewed

LEADERSHIP STYLES IN SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

A comparison of the effects of transactional and transformational leadership in synchronous and a synchronous online teamwork was conducted. In the study, groups of four participants interacted in online text chat and online text forum in problem solving tasks. The groups were leaded by a confederate who acted as a transactional or a transformational leader. Satisfaction in the interactions and participations communicative styles were assessed. Results indicated that transformational leadership is more satisfying and cognitive and metacognitive style oriented than transactional leadership that is more participative style oriented.

International audience; À partir d’une enquête sur les discours et pratiques liés au livre audio du côté d’usagers et de bibliothécaires menée à l’occasion d’un projet de recherche-action dans trois bibliothèques de lecture publique françaises, nous essayons dans cet article de faire avancer la réflexion autour de la notion de prescription, historiquement ancrée dans la figure du bibliothécaire, et de travailler en particulier les écarts entre la prescription d’un format qui reste un impensé de la profession et la médiation d’une expérience d’écoute de la littérature.
