The Pyridyl Functional Groups Guide the Formation of Pd Nanoparticles Inside A Porous Poly(4-Vinyl-Pyridine)

2015

The reactivity of palladium acetate inside a poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) polymer is strongly influenced by the establishment of interaction between the Pd precursor and the pyridyl functional group in the polymer. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and simultaneous X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques have been applied to monitor the reactivity of palladium acetate in the presence of H-2 and CO as a function of temperature. H-2 reduces palladium acetate to Pd nanoparticles and acetic acid. The pyridyl groups in the polymer play a vital role both in stabilizing the formed acetic acid, thu…

Copper(I) Complexes of Bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl) Ether:  Synthesis, Reactivity, and Theoretical Calculations

2007

The tricoordinated cationic Cu-I complex [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa(1)-P-DPEphos)][BF4] (1) (DPEphos = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl) ether) containing a dangling phosphorus center was synthesized from the reaction of [Cu(CH3CN)(4)][BF4] with DPEphos in a 1:2 molar ratio in dichloromethane. When complex 1 is treated with MnO2, elemental sulfur, or selenium, the uncoordinated phosphorus atom undergoes oxidation to form a PE bond resulting in the formation of complexes of the type [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa(2)-P,E-DPEphos-E)][BF4] (2, E = O; 3, E = S; 4, E = Se) containing a Cu-E bond. The zigzag polymeric Cu-I complex [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(mu-4,4'-bpy)](n)[BF4](n) (5) was …

Out-of-plane transport of 1T-TaS2/graphene-based van der Waals heterostructures

2021

Due to their anisotropy, layered materials are excellent candidates for studying the interplay between the in-plane and out-of-plane entanglement in strongly correlated systems. A relevant example is provided by 1T-TaS2, which exhibits a multifaceted electronic and magnetic scenario due to the existence of several charge density wave (CDW) configurations. It includes quantum hidden phases, superconductivity and exotic quantum spin liquid (QSL) states, which are highly dependent on the out-of-plane stacking of the CDW. In this system, the interlayer stacking of the CDW is crucial for the interpretation of the underlying electronic and magnetic phase diagram. Here, thin-layers of 1T-TaS2 are …

Designing binuclear transition metal complexes: a new example of the versatility of N,N′-bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6

2005

[Abstract] N,N′-Bis(2-aminobenzyl)-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6 (L) is a versatile receptor able to adapt to the coordinative preferences of different metal cation guests. With first-row transition metal ions, L tends to form binuclear complexes but, depending on the nature of the particular metal ion, the structure of the binuclear complex may be very different. Herein we report a study of the structure and magnetic properties of the corresponding nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes. The X-ray crystal structure of the nickel complex (1), with formula [Ni2(L)(CH3CN)4](ClO4)4·CH3CN, shows that this compound presents a symmetric coordination environment with L adopting an anti arrangement. Each Ni(I…

Synthesis and detection of a seaborgium carbonyl complex

2014

A carbonyl compound that tips the scales Life is short for the heaviest elements. They emerge from high-energy nuclear collisions with scant time for detection before they break up into lighter atoms. Even et al. report that even a few seconds is long enough for carbon to bond to the 106th element, seaborgium (see the Perspective by Loveland). The authors used a custom apparatus to direct the freshly made atoms out of the hot collision environment and through a stream of carbon monoxide and helium. They compared the detected products with theoretical modeling results and conclude that hexacarbonyl Sg(CO) 6 was the most likely structural formula. Science , this issue p. 1491 ; see also p. 14…

Azide Binding Controlled by Steric Interactions in Second Sphere. Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Magnetic Properties of [Ni II 2 (L)(μ 1,1 -N 3 )]…

2016

International audience; The dinuclear Ni-II complex [Ni-2(L-2)][ClO4](2) (3) supported by the 28-membered hexaaza-dithiophenolate macro-cycle (L-2)(2-) binds the N-3(-) ion specifically end-on yielding [Ni-2(L-2)(mu(1,1)-N-3)] [ClO4] (7) or [Ni-2(L-2)(mu(1,1)-N-3)][BPh4] (8), while the previously reported complex [Ni2L1(mu(1,3)-N-3)][ClO4] (2) of the 24-membered macrocycle (L-1)(2-) coordinates it in the end-to-end fashion. A comparison of the X-ray structures of 2, 3, and 7 reveals the form-selective binding of complex 3 to be a consequence of its preorganized, channel-like binding pocket, which accommodates the azide anion via repulsive CH center dot center dot center dot pi interactions …

Iridium(III) Complexes with Phenyl-tetrazoles as Cyclometalating Ligands

2014

Ir(II) cationic complexes with cyclometalating tetrazolate ligands were prepared for the first time, following a two-step strategy based on (i) a silver-assisted cyclometalation reaction of a tetrazole derivative with IrCl3 affording a bis-cyclometalated solvato-complex P ([Ir(ptrz)(2)(CH3CN)(2)](+), Hptrz = 2-methyl-5-phenyl-2H-tetrazole); (ii) a substitution reaction with five neutral ancillary ligands to get [Ir(ptrz)(2)L](+), with L = 2,2'-bypiridine (1), 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine (2), 1,10-phenanthroline (3), and 2-(1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine (4), and [Ir(ptrz)(2)L-2](+), with L = tertbutyl isocyanide (5). X-ray crystal structures of P, 2, and 3 were solved. Elect…

Proximity Effects on the Charge Density Wave Order and Superconductivity in Single-Layer NbSe2

2021

Collective electronic states such as the charge density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity (SC) respond sensitively to external perturbations. Such sensitivity is dramatically enhanced in two dimensions (2D), where 2D materials hosting such electronic states are largely exposed to the environment. In this regard, the ineludible presence of supporting substrates triggers various proximity effects on 2D materials that may ultimately compromise the stability and properties of the electronic ground state. In this work, we investigate the impact of proximity effects on the CDW and superconducting states in single-layer (SL) NbSe2 on four substrates of diverse nature, namely, bilayer graphene…

Applications and stereoselective syntheses of P-chirogenic phosphorus compounds.

2016

International audience; Phosphorus compounds bearing chirality on the P-center are usually qualified as P-chirogenic or P-stereogenic. This chemical class concerns natural products, agrochemistry, molecular materials, biology and pharmacy, although it is certainly in coordination chemistry and in asymmetric catalysis using chiral transition metal complexes that P-chirogenic phosphorus compounds are the most used. The chiral phosphine ligands and their uses in asymmetric metal-catalyzed reactions have been widely reviewed in literature. However, an overview covering the applications as well as the stereoselective syntheses of all classes of phosphorus compounds has not yet been provided. Thi…

Copper( ii ) complexes with phosphorylated 1,10-phenanthrolines: from molecules to infinite supramolecular arrays

2016

International audience; The reaction of phosphorylated 1,10-phenanthrolines 3-Pphen, 3,8-Pphen and 4,7-Pphen (3-Pphen = 3-diethoxyphosphorylphenanthroline, 3,8-Pphen = 3,8-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl) phenanthroline, 4,7-Pphen = 4,7-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl) phenanthroline) and hydrated copper(II) nitrate in a 1 : 1 ratio leads to the formation of supramolecular architectures. In the 1D coordination polymer [Cu(3-Pphen)(NO3)(2)](n) (2) the copper atom is coordinated to only one phenanthroline ligand and the coordination sphere is completed by two oxygen atoms of nitrate anions and the oxygen atom of the phosphoryl group from the neighbouring phenanthroline ligand.
