Parent–Infant Attachment Insecurity and Emotional Eating in Adolescence: Mediation through Emotion Suppression and Alexithymia

2021

Contains fulltext : 233652.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Emotional eating (EE), the propensity to eat in response to emotions, is thought to have its origins in the early parent-infant relationship. This study tested the hypothesis that infant attachment insecurity results in EE in adolescence through the increased use of the emotion regulation strategy suppression of emotions and subsequent alexithymia. At the age of 15 months, parent-infant attachment security (n = 129) was observed with two abbreviated attachment measures: the shortened strange situation procedure (SSSP), and the shortened attachment Q-set (S-AQS). At the age of 12 years, children completed self-report questio…

Does hormone treatment help Polish transgender individuals cope with stress?

2023

Introduction: The results of Polish studies indicate that transgender individuals have lower quality of life than cisgender people. Research shows that hormone treatment and transition-related surgeries can buffer the stress’ impact on the quality of life of transgender people. The objective of this study was to explore whether hormone treatment and transition-related surgeries moderate in the relationship between stress and life satisfaction in transgender individuals. Material and methods: One hundred twenty-four transgender individuals in the age between 18 and 53 years old (M = 23.60; SD = 6.32) participated in the presented study — 41 transgender women and 83 transgender men. Advances in the endoscopic management of malignant biliary obstruction

2020

Biliary obstruction is common in pancreatobiliary malignancies and has a negative impact on the patient’s quality of life, postoperative complications, and survival rates. Particularly in the last decade, there has been enormous progress regarding the diagnostic and therapeutic options in patients with malignant biliary obstruction. Endoscopy has given a new insight in this direction and novel techniques have been developed for the better characterization and treatment of malignant strictures. We herein summarize the available data on the different endoscopic techniques, and clarify their role in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant biliary obstructive disease. Finally, we propose an al…

Towards a Guidance System to Aid in the Dosimetry Calculation of Intraoperative Electron Radiation Therapy

2015

In Intraoperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOERT), the lack of specific planning tools limits its applicability, the need for accurate dosimetry estimation and application during the therapy being the most critical. Recently, some works have been presented that try to overcome some of the limitations for establishing planning tools, though still an accurate guidance system that tracks, in real-time, the applicator and the patient is needed. In these surgical environments, the acquisition of an accurate 3D shape of the patient’s tumor bed in real-time is of high interest, as current systems make use of a 3D model acquired before the treatment. In this paper, an optical-based system is pre…

Suoliston mikrobit ja fyysinen suorituskyky

2021

Suolistoamme asuttava miljardilukuinen mikrobiyhteisö osallistuu fysiologiaamme monin tavoin.

ANAPLASTIC THYROID CANCER: A CASE SERIES WITH A WIDE SPECTRUM OF TREATMENT IN EMERGENCY

2019

Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies of the neck, and for the majority of these patients the cause of death is a compromised airway, metastatic disease, superior vena cava syndrome, asphyxiation, or exsanguination. In case of the airway being compromised, emergency treatment is mandatory but not well defined. We report 4 different kinds of acute presentation of complications. Anaplastic thyroid cancer; diagnostic, clinical and prognostic indication, evaluation of choice of treatment are discussed. The spectrum of treatment varies from observation and preservation of the airway from a tracheostomy to extensive surgery. When a potentially curative rese…
