Synthesis and antiproliferative activities of two new analogs of tetrazepinones
Based on the encouraging results, we report the multistep synthesis and the biologicalo results of two new analogs of tetrazepinones: the 3,5-dimethyl-6-phenyl-8-(trifluoromethyl-5,6-dihydropyrazo1o[3-4-f]1,2,35)tetrazepin-4(3H)-one and the 3-(2-chloroethyl)-5-methyl-6-phenyl-8-(trifluoromethyl-5,6-dihydropyrazo1o[3-4-f]1,2,35)tetrazepin-4(3H)-one. Both compounds showed a pro-apoptotic activity against HL60 and K562 resistant cell lines. Flow cytometry studies carried out 0n K562 cells allowed to establish that the methyl derivative induces G0-G1, phase arrest followed by apoptosis, whereas the chloroethyl derivative is a not phase-specific agent.
Using 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate as an Entrainer for the Extractive Distillation of Ethanol + Water Mixtures
2009
Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria (VLE) for the ethanol + water + [emim][triflate] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The ethanol + water binary system was also obtained. Furthermore, data were simulated with the Mock’s electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, using the solvent−solvent interaction parameters obtained from VLE data of the ethanol + water system and taking the solvent−ionic liquid (IL) interaction parameters for the other binary systems from previous works. The agreement between experimental and calculated data is very good, showing the predictive capacity of the model. The addition of [emim][triflate] produces the disappearance of …
Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for 1-Propanol + Water + 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate at 100 kPa
2008
Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria for the binary systems 1-propanol + water, 1-propanol + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([emim][triflate]), and water + [emim][triflate] as well as the vapor−liquid equilibria for the 1-propanol + water + [emim][triflate] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. Electrolyte NRTL fitting parameters for the 1-propanol + water and water + [emim][triflate] systems were calculated. The measured ternary data were correlated using Mock’s electrolyte NRTL model which reproduces reasonably well the experimental values. The results show that the addition of [emim][triflate] to 1-propanol + water produced an import…
Ionic Liquids as Entrainers in Extractive Distillation: Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for Acetone + Methanol + 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Triflu…
2006
Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria for the binary systems acetone + methanol, acetone + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([emim][triflate]), and methanol + [emim][triflate] as well as the vapor−liquid equilibrium for the acetone + methanol + [emim][triflate] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The addition of the ionic liquid to the solvent mixture produced an important salting-out effect, and the azeotrope tended to disappear for small contents of ionic liquid. The experimental binary data sets were independently fitted with the electrolyte NRTL model, and the parameters of Mock's model were estimated for each binary system. These pa…
Synthesis and mesomorphism of related series of triphilic ionic liquid crystals based on 1,2,4-triazolium cations
2021
Abstract The synthesis, liquid crystal and conductivity properties of a series of 27 salts based on the 5-(4-(alkyloxy)phenyl)-1,2,4-triazol-4-ium cation bearing a perfluoroalkyl chain with triflate, tetrafluoroborate and bistriflimide anion are reported. The cations are regarded as triphilic on account of their three distinct regions – hydrocarbon, fluorocarbon and ionic. The mesophases were characterised by a combination of polarised optical microscopy, calorimetry and small-angle scattering experiments using both X-rays and neutrons, while thermal stability was probed using thermogravimetric analysis. The liquid crystal properties are found to be dependent on the anion and the length of …
Comparison between hybrid moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge system: a pilot plant experiment
2010
The paper presents the comparison between the traditional activated sludge system (AS) and a hybrid moving bed biofilm reactor (HMBBR). In particular, an experimental campaign has been carried out at the WWTP in Palermo (Italy), on a pilot plant consisting of two pre-anoxic schemes. The aerated tank of the HMBBR line was filled with suspended carriers (AnoxKaldnes™ K1), with a 30% filling ratio. The hydraulic load of the HMBBR line was increased up to two times the AS one. Further, in order to distinguish the additional contribution of the attached biomass for the HMBBR system, in the two lines the Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS) was maintained as equal as possible. The monitoring peri…
Exciton emission and defect formation in yttrium trifluoride
2005
Two intrinsic emission bands at 220 and 280 nm have been detected in nominally pure YF3 powders at 10 K. Excitation spectra for both emissions have a sharp peak at 12 eV near the edge of interband transition. Observed emissions are assigned to the radiative decay of self-trapped excitons in YF3. The strong thermal quenching of intrinsic luminescence was observed at temperature above 120 K. It was supposed that non-radiative decay of self-trapped exciton at high temperatures lead to defect formation in YF3. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
Modulation of α-Synuclein Aggregation Process and Fibril Stability by Co-solvents
2014
Amyloid fibrils are involved in several amyloid-related pathologies such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and type II diabetes. As a result, scientific community is nowadays addressing considerable efforts towards the comprehension of fibrillation mechanisms, particularly focusing on how they are affected by environmental conditions, small molecules and/or membrane presence. In this scenario, alpha-synuclein (aSN), a small protein involved in Parkinson's disease, represents a challenging model system for studying aggregation phenomena, and understanding the pathogenesis at molecular level. Indeed, it is poorly understood how fibril formation is linked to the progressive neurodege…
Catalytic Enantioselective Conjugate Alkynylation of β-Aryl-β-trifluoromethyl Enones Constructing Propargylic All-Carbon Quaternary Stereogenic Cente…
2016
The enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of β-aryl-β-trifluoromethyl enones has been carried out using terminal alkynes and diethylzinc in the presence of 3,3'-bis(perfluorophenyl)BINOL as the chiral ligand to give the corresponding ketones bearing a trifluoromethylated propargylic quaternary stereocenter with fair to good enantioselectivities. Enones bearing a bulky 2-naphthyl attached to the carbonyl group provided the best enantioselectivities. The synthetic applicability of the resulting products has been demonstrated with their iodocyclization to form 4H-pyrans.
Enantioselective Synthesis of 5-Trifluoromethyl-2-oxazolines under Dual Silver/Organocatalysis.
2019
[EN] The first enantioselective formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition between ¿-isocyanoesters and trifluoromethylketones to give 5-trifluoromethyl-2-oxazolines bearing two contiguous stereogenic centers, one of them being a quaternary stereocenter substituted with a CF3 group, has been developed. The reaction is based upon a multicatalytic approach that combines a bifunctional Brønsted base-squaramide organocatalyst and Ag+ as Lewis acid. The reaction could be achieved with a range of aryl and heteroaryl trifluoromethyl ketones, and the resulting oxazolines were obtained with good to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivity.
