The phase diagram of Ti-6Al-4V at high-pressures and high-temperatures.

Abstract We report results from a series of diamond-anvil-cell synchrotron x-ray diffraction and large-volume-press experiments, and calculations, to investigate the phase diagram of commercial polycrystalline high-strength Ti-6Al-4V alloy in pressure–temperature space. Up to ∼30 GPa and 886 K, Ti-6Al-4V is found to be stable in the hexagonal-close-packed, or α phase. The effect of temperature on the volume expansion and compressibility of α–Ti-6Al-4V is modest. The martensitic α → ω (hexagonal) transition occurs at ∼30 GPa, with both phases coexisting until at ∼38–40 GPa the transition to the ω phase is completed. Luminescent copper(i) complexes with bisphosphane and halogen-substituted 2,2′-bipyridine ligands

Heteroleptic [Cu(P^P)(N^N)][PF6] complexes, where N^N is a halo-substituted 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and P^P is either bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl)ether (POP) or 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9- dimethylxanthene (xantphos) have been synthesized and investigated. To stabilize the tetrahedral geometry of the copper(I) complexes, the steric demands of the bpy ligands have been increased by introducing 6- or 6,6'-halo-substituents in 6,6'-dichloro-2,2'-bipyridine (6,6'-Cl2bpy), 6-bromo-2,2'- bipyridine (6-Brbpy) and 6,6'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridine (6,6'-Br2bpy). Combined heat and power generation with a HCPV system at 2000 suns

In the framework of the FAE “Fotovoltaico ad Alta Efficienza” (“High Efficiency Photovoltaic”) Research Project funded by the Sicilian Region under the program PO FESR Sicilia 2007/2013 4.1.1.1, we have developed an innovative solar CHP system for the combined production of heat and power at the high concentration level of 2000 suns [1]. This work shows the experimental results obtained on FAE-HCPV modules and analyses the behaviour of the system. The solar radiation is concentrated on commercial InGaP/InGaAs/Ge triple-junction solar cells designed for intensive work. Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a form of BC characterized by high aggressiveness, therapy resistance, short time to relapse, poor prognosis. The presence of Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs) could be responsible for TNBC resistance to therapy, recurrence and metastasis, and might explain the difficult of its eradication. Mcl-1 is one of the key regulators of CSCs self-renewal and its expression can limit the efficacy of antitumorigenic agents as TRAIL, a selective anticancer agent but with limited effects against some cancer cell lines. Co-occurrence and risk assessment of mycotoxins in food and diet from Mediterranean area.

The contents of 14 mycotoxins were studied in samples of different cereals and cereal products from four countries of the Mediterranean region. Two hundred and sixty-five samples from Spain, Italy, Morocco and Tunisia were analysed. Samples were extracted with matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) and determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry with a triple quadrupole mass analyser. The percentage of total samples contaminated was 53%. The frequency of contaminated samples from Spain, Italy, Tunisia and Morocco was 33%, 52%, 96% and 50%, respectively. All-organic fast intersystem crossing assisted exciplexes exhibiting sub-microsecond thermally activated delayed fluorescence

A novel strategy is presented towards acquisition of exciplex systems exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) with a high reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) rate (exceeding 107 s−1). This approach involves constructing exciplex donor–acceptor molecular pairs, where the acceptor molecule possesses the ability to undergo fast and efficient intersystem crossing (ISC). Hyperpolarization has found many applications in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However, its usage is still limited to the observation of relatively fast processes because of its short lifetimes. This issue can be circumvented by storing the hyperpolarization in a slowly relaxing singlet state. Photoreactivity of Furocoumarins and DNA in PUVA Therapy: Formation of Psoralen−Thymine Adducts

The mechanism of the [2 + 2] cycloaddition photoreaction of psoralen and a DNA nucleobase, thymine, cornerstone of the furocoumarin-based PUVA (psoralen + UVA radiation) phototherapy, has been studied by the quantum-chemical multiconfigurational CASPT2 method. Triplet- and singlet-mediated mono- and diadduct formations have been determined to take place via singlet-triplet crossings and conical intersections, correlated with the initially promoted triplet or singlet states in different possible reactive orientations.
