The very long 27 books ofL'Italia liberata dai Goti in loose verses, composed by Giangiorgio Trissino (1478-1550) in the early 1920s, found an epic poetry model that intends to respond to the crisis of the Italian states, aggravated after 1494 , and the political-cultural necessity of a founding myth, which the poet traces back to the Gothic war fought on the Italian peninsula between 535 and 553. In the conflict of interpretations that affected Sofonisba, the first regular tragedy in Italian by Vicenza's Giangiorgio Trissino (1478-1550), two different interpretative lines were clearly distinguished. Una riflessione sul teatro tragico cinquecentesco, tra formulazioni teoriche e prassi poetiche, invita all’analisi di due opere significative per gli sviluppi della drammaturgia tragica, la Sofonisba di Gian Giorgio Trissino e Il Torrismondo di Torquato Tasso.
