The determinants of increasing equity market comovement: economic or financial integration?

This paper investigates to what extent the substantial increase in exposures of local European equity market returns to global shocks is mainly due to a convergence in cash flows (“economic integration”), to a convergence in discount rates (“financial integration”), or to both. We find that this increased exposure is nearly entirely due to increasing discount-rate betas. This finding is robust to alternative ways of calculating discount-rate and cash-flow shocks.
On measuring speculative and hedging activities in futures markets from volume and open interest data

This paper provides a critical assessment of the line of research that measures speculative and hedging activities in futures markets from volume and open interest data. It makes several contributions. First, a detailed theoretical analysis of the measures proposed in the previous literature as proxies for speculative activity clarifies the circumstances in which they fail, as well as the assumptions that have to be made, when they are used as intended. Second, we propose a new way of combining the volume and the open interest figures, which provides additional information regarding the type of trading activity that takes place in the market on a given date. Abstract This paper examines the distributional effects of international trade in a general equilibrium model with heterogeneous agents and a welfare state redistributing income. The redistribution scheme is financed by a progressive income tax and gives the same absolute transfer to all individuals. Ceteris paribus, international trade leads to an increase in income per capita but also to higher income inequality on two fronts. Inter-group inequality between managers and workers increases, and intra-group inequality within the group of managers goes up as well. Varieties of agencies during working life changes

The aim of this study is to shed light on the varieties of workers´ agencies in working life change situations, which is an under-researched topic in the literature of workplace learning and in working life studies. The research questions are what kinds of agencies there are to be found when workers encounter changes and how the different kinds of agencies are connected together. A cross-country study of skills and unemployment flows

AbstractUsing an international survey that directly assesses the cognitive skills of the adult population, I study the relation between skills and unemployment flows across 37 countries. Depending on the specifically assessed domain, I document that skills have an unconditional correlation with the log-risk-ratio of exiting to entering unemployment of 0.65–0.68 across the advanced and skill-abundant countries in the sample. The relation is remarkably robust and it is unlikely to be due to reverse causality. Volatility transmission patterns and terrorist attacks

The objective of this study is to analyze volatility transmission between the US and Eurozone stock markets considering the effects of the September 11, March 11 and July 7 financial crises. In order to do this, we use a multivariate GARCH model and take into account the asymmetric volatility phenomenon, the non-synchronous trading problem and the crises themselves. Moreover, a graphical analysis of the Asymmetric Volatility Impulse-Response Functions (AVIRF) is introduced, which takes into consideration the crisis effect. Mērķis ir, pamatojoties uz Latvijas komercbanku hipotekāro kredītu datu analīzi, uz autores veiktās aptaujas rezultātiem un Latvijas komercbanku pakalpojumu klāsta salīdzinošo analīzi, konstatēt hipotekārās kreditēšanas attīstības tendences un izstrādāt priekšlikumus attīstības veicināšanai. Pētījumā tika veikta komercbanku hipotekāro kredītu pakalpojumu salīdzinošā analīze. Autore veica aptauju par hipotekārajiem kredītiem, lai izpētītu šo kredītu pieprasījumu. Aptaujā piedalījās 200 respondenti ar vidējo vecumu 35 gadi. Tika analizēti FKTK un CSP dati, lai noteiktu hipotekārās kreditēšanas attīstības tendences. Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap, Høgskolen i Agder Kristiansand Bakgrunn: Det totale aktivitetsnivået går nedover (Hjort et al., 1996), og en slik nedgang har konsekvenser for folks helse (Anderssen, 2000). På bakgrunn av dette har fylkesplanen for Vest-Agder programområdet ”fysisk aktivitet” som et av sju satsingsområder for folkehelsearbeidet i fylket.
