OSSERVAZIONI SULLA FORTUNA E I FRAINTENDIMENTI DEL TRACTATUS LOGICO-PHILOSOPHICUS A CENT’ANNI DALLA SUA PUBBLICAZIONE
2022
Starting with a suggestion, the similarity between Wittgenstein and Montaigne, this article reconstructs a quick history of the substantial misunderstanding that, despite his enormous success, characterized the "Tractatus logico-philosophicus" and the role of ethical issue in this book.
CntA oxygenase substrate profile comparison and oxygen dependency of TMA production in Providencia rettgeri.
2017
CntA oxygenase is a Rieske 2S-2Fe cluster-containing protein that has been previously described as able to produce trimethylamine (TMA) from carnitine, gamma-butyrobetaine, glycine betaine, and in one case, choline. TMA found in humans is exclusively of bacterial origin, and its metabolite, trimethylamine oxide (TMAO), has been associated with atherosclerosis and heart and renal failure. We isolated four different Rieske oxygenases and determined that there are no significant differences in their substrate panels. All three had high activity toward carnitine/gamma-butyrobetaine, medium activity toward glycine betaine, and very low activity toward choline. We tested the influence of low oxyg…
Mirar con cuidado. Filosofía y Escepticismo [Introducció]

Übertragung von Verhaltensweisen durch Transplantation von Anlagen neuroanatomischer Strukturen bei Amphibienlarven
2010
By replacing parts of the neural plate (prospective medulla oblongata) of Triturus vulgaris by neural ectoderm of Xenopus laevis larval chimaeras were obtained, which showed donorlike rhythmical movements of distinct parts of the visceral musculature according to the place of implantation. Especially the branchial region with its external gills showed rhythmical movements and is the special object of this investigation.
Antibiotic Resistance of Gram Negatives isolates from loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) in the central Mediterranean Sea
2009
Previous studies on fish and marine mammals support the hypothesis that marine species harbor antibiotic resistance and therefore may serve as reservoirs for anti biotic-resistance genetic determinants. The aim of this study was to assess the resistance to antimicrobial agents of Gram negative strains isolated from loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Oral and cloacal swabs from 19 live-stranded loggerhead sea turtles, with hooks fixed into the gut, were analyzed. The antimicrobial resistance of the isolates to 31 antibiotics was assessed using the disk-diffusion method. Conventional biochemical tests identified Citrobacter spp., Proteus spp., Enterobacter spp., Escherichia spp., Provi…

Sur la "grammaire publique" du sujet parlant
2014
When Ethics and Aesthetics Are One and the Same: A Wittgensteinian Perspective on Natural Value
2015
Many environmental philosophers have held naturalness to be a primary source of nature’s value. Seen this way, the nature that is most valuable is wild nature, and ‘wild’ is that which is unmodiled by human activity. However, accounts of our attributions of value to the wild often have an aura of elusiveness to them, as if what really matters about nature being wild could not ultimately be captured by words. In an attempt to account for what really matters, I relate our fascination with wild nature to a famous Wittgensteinian quote—‘Ethics and Aesthetics are one and the same’ (Tractatus 2006a: 28, §6.421)—and inspect the ways in which important dimensions of our attributions of value to wil…
Phylogenetic analysis of the genera Proteus, Morganella and Providencia by comparison of rpoB sequences of type and clinical strains suggests the cla…
2010
Phylogenetic analysis of partial rpoB gene sequences of type and clinical strains belonging to different 16S rRNA gene-fingerprinting ribogroups within 11 species of enterobacteria of the genera Proteus, Morganella and Providencia was performed and allowed the definition of rpoB clades, supported by high bootstrap values and confirmed by ≥2.5 % nucleotide divergence. None of the resulting clades included strains belonging to different species and the majority of the species were confirmed as discrete and homogeneous. However, more than one distinct rpoB clade could be defined among strains belonging to the species Proteus vulgaris (two clades), Providencia alcalifaciens (two clades) and Pro…
Paolozzi & Wittgenstein: The Artist and the Philosopher
2019
Conceived as a collection of essays, this edited volume exceptionally brings together philosophers and art historians of different geographic and generational backgrounds to discuss Wittgenstein and Paolozzi, giving voice to a variety of disciplinary approaches and shaping diverse topics that may arouse the interest of a twofold audience. As a matter of fact, the book offers both a unique take on Paolozzi’s oeuvre, reassessing his pivotal importance in the second half of the twentieth century—especially as far as medium diversity and the use of popular culture are concerned—and a convenient opportunity to explore Wittgenstein’s thought related to visual arts and his influence on contemporar…
