The effect of RAAS blockade on markers of renal tubular damage in diabetic nephropathy: u-NGAL, u-KIM1 and u-LFABP.
2012
Blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) affects both the glomerulus and tubules. We aimed to investigate the effect of irbesartan on the tubular markers: urinary (u) neutrophil gelatinase associated protein (NGAL), Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM1) and liver-fatty acid-binding protein (LFABP).A substudy of a double-masked, randomized, cross-over study including 52 patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and microalbuminuria. After 2 months washout of all antihypertensive medication except bendroflumethiazid, patients were treated in random order with irbesartan 300, 600 and 900 mg for 2 months.Urinary tubular markers at baseline and after each treatment period (ELISA),…
DNA Content and Synthesis in Several Tissues and Variation of Moulting Hormone-Level in Gryllus bimaculatus DEG (Ensifera, Insecta)
1983
The mode of growth of several tissues in Gryllus bimaculatus was investigated during postembryonic development by cytophotometric methods. In contrast to the situation in holo- metabolous insects, the tissues growing by endomitosis reach only moderate levels of polyploidy. In this case the growth of tissues is achieved by mitotic divisions of small cells with subsequent polyploidization. The time courses of DNA synthesis were measured within the 3rd and, for comparison, the 8th larval instar by incorporation of labelled thymidine followed by autoradiography. Hemocytes, cells of the regeneration crypts of the midgut, gonads and nervous tissue showed a continuous incorporation rate; by contra…
Ultrastructure of embryonic envelopes and integument ofOncopeltus fasciatus dallas (Insecta, Heteroptera)
1978
The embryo ofOncopeltus fasciatus forms a typical secondary dorsal organ (SDO). It develops after katatrepsis from the contracting serosa, the cells of which decrease in diameter but increase considerably in height. After 66 h, the SDO represents a protrusion of the serosal epithelium above the head and is then reduced to a disc-shaped formation, which sinks into the yolk, where it disintegrates after 80 h. During its typical expression, between 66 and 78 h, the SDO shows a zonal arrangement of its cell organelles. The nucleus, which is located in the basal cell region, has a very irregular outline and includes several nucleoli and globular inclusion bodies. Rough and smooth ER are well dev…
Histotomography of the odontoblast processes at the dentine-enamel junction of permanent healthy human teeth in the confocal laser scanning microscope
1998
The translucency of teeth allows the non-destructive subsurface visualisation of their microstructure by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) at a level of about 150 μm below the surface. The dentine–enamel junction (DEJ) is accessible only directly adjacent to the cervix of the tooth. Therefore teeth have to be sectioned for studying marginal areas of the dental hard tissue. The potential of the technique for (pseudo) three-dimensional visualisation allows the study of an array of individual confocal images, the interpretation of which is similar to that of macroscopic tomographs (CT-scan, MRI). Additionally, the extended focus mode yields the overlay of individual confocal images in …
A biomimetic approach to ameliorate dental hypersensitivity by amorphous polyphosphate microparticles.
2016
Abstract Objective Dental hypersensitivity has become one of the most common and most costly diseases in the world, even though those maladies are very rarely life threatening. Using amorphous microparticles, fabricated from the natural polymer (polyphosphate), we intend to reseal the dentinal tubules exposed and reduce by that the hypersensitivity. Methods Amorphous microparticles (termed aCa-polyP-MP) were prepared from Na-polyphosphate (polyP) and CaCl 2 , then incubated with human teeth. The potential of the microparticles to plug the dentinal tubules was determined by microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. Results We demonstrate that, in contrast to polyP, the aCa-polyP-MP efficient…

Made available in DSpace on 2021-06-25T10:46:55Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 Background: To evaluate the influence of the association of the universal adhesive system to different energy densities of the Nd:YAG laser on the hydraulic conductance of dentin. Material and Methods: Fifty bovine dentin discs were made. The samples were stratified into four groups (n = 10) according to the treatment performed; SBU- Adper Single Bond Universal (3M ESPE), SBU_60 - SBU associated with the Nd:YAG laser (60mJ, 10Hz, 0.6W - 47.77 J / cm²), SBU_80 - SBU associated with the Nd:YAG laser (80mJ, 10Hz, 0.8 W - 63.69 J / cm2) and C – dentin without treatment (smear layer). Biomimetic transformation of polyphosphate microparticles during restoration of damaged teeth.
2019
Abstract Objective In the present study, we investigated the fusion process between amorphous microparticles of the calcium salt of the physiological polymer comprising orthophosphate units, of inorganic polyphosphate (polyP), and enamel. Methods This polymer was incorporated as an ingredient into toothpaste and the fusion process was studied by electron microscopy and by synchrotron-based X-ray tomography microscopy (SRXTM) techniques. Results The data showed that toothpaste, supplemented with the amorphous Ca-polyP microparticles (aCa-polyP-MP), not only reseals tooth defects on enamel, like carious lesions, and dentin, including exposed dentinal tubules, but also has the potential to ind…
Evaluation of the Diode laser (810nm,980nm) on dentin tubule diameter following internal bleaching
2015
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser irradiation and bleaching materials on the dentinal tubule diameter after laser bleaching. Material and Methods: The dentin discs of 40 extracted third molar were used in this experiment. Each disc surface was divided into two halves by grooving. Half of samples were laser bleached at different wavelengths with two different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Other half of each disc with no laser bleaching remained as a negative control. Dentin discs were assigned randomly into four groups (n=10) with following hydrogen peroxide and diode laser wavelength specifications; Group 1 (30% - 810 nm), group 2 (30% - 980 …
Serpent and a hibris reporter are co-expressed in migrating cells during Drosophila hematopoiesis and Malpighian tubule formation
2006
Motile mesodermal cells contribute several cell types to developing embryos. In Drosophila, blood cell precursors or prohemocytes, are first detected in the procephalic mesoderm by the expression of the GATA transcription factor Serpent. Once specified, a subset of prohemocytes migrate posteriorly to populate most of the embryo and further differentiate as plasmatocytes. Similarly, Drosophila nephrogenesis involves integration of posterior mesodermal cells into the Malpighian tubule primordia where these cells differentiate as stellate cells. Here we investigated the possibility that the immunoglobulin-domain protein Hibris and the GATA factor Serpent were co-expressed in motile mesodermal …
Correlation of renal tubular epithelial cell-derived interleukin-18 up-regulation with disease activity in MRL-Faslpr mice with autoimmune lupus neph…
2002
Objective MRL-Faslpr mice spontaneously develop an autoimmune disease that mimics systemic lupus erythematosus in humans. Infiltrating T cells expressing interferon-γ (IFNγ) are responsible for the autoimmune kidney destruction in MRL-Faslpr mice, and interleukin-18 (IL-18) released by mononuclear phagocytes stimulates T cells to produce the IFNγ. Since MRL-Faslpr T cells are characterized by an overexpression of the IL-18 receptor accessory chain, we sought to determine the impact of IL-18 on the progression of lupus nephritis in MRL-Faslpr mice. Methods IL-18 expression in sera and kidney tissues from MRL-Faslpr mice was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), reverse tra…
