Liver specific deletion of CYLDexon7/8 induces severe biliary damage, fibrosis and increases hepatocarcinogenesis in mice

Background & Aims CYLD is a tumor suppressor gene that is mutated in familial cylindromatosis, an autosomal dominant predisposition to tumors of skin appendages. Reduced CYLD expression has been observed in other tumor entities, including hepatocellular carcinoma. In the present study, we analyzed the role of CYLD in liver homeostasis and hepatocarcinogenesis in vivo . Methods Mice with liver-specific deletion of CYLDexon7/8 ( CYLD FF xAlbCre ) were generated. Loss of a novel tumor suppressor gene locus at chromosome 8p is associated with leukemic mantle cell lymphoma

Abstract Patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) may present with either nodal or leukemic disease. The molecular determinants underlying this different biologic behavior are not known. This study compared the pattern of genetic abnormalities in patients with nodal and leukemic phases of MCL using comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for specific gene loci. Although both leukemic and nodal MCL showed similar genomic patterns of losses (involving 6q, 11q22-q23, 13q14, and 17p13) and gains (affecting 3q and 8q), genomic loss of chromosome 8p occurred more frequently in patients with leukemic disease (79% versus 11%,P < .001). p53 Involvement in the control of murine hair follicle regression.

p53 is a transcription factor mediating a variety of biological responses including apoptotic cell death. p53 was recently shown to control apoptosis in the hair follicle induced by ionizing radiation and chemotherapy, but its role in the apoptosis-driven physiological hair follicle regression (catagen) remains to be elucidated. Here, we show that p53 protein is strongly expressed and co-localized with apoptotic markers in the regressing hair follicle compartments during catagen. In contrast to wild-type mice, p53 knockout mice show significant retardation of catagen accompanied by significant decrease in the number of apoptotic cells in the hair matrix. Prediction model of lymph node metastasis in superficial esophageal adenocarcinoma and squamous cell cancer including D2-40 immunostaining

Primary malignant PEComa of the mandible. Report of an unusual case

Malignant PEComa is a rare entity that usually origins at visceral, retroperitoneal and abdominopelvic sites. In the present paper, we describe an extremely unusual manifestation of malignant PEComa involving the mandible in a 48 years-old female patient focusing on the anatomopathological findings and differential diagnosis. Lymph node (LN) metastases in urological malignancies correlate with poor oncological outcomes. Accurate LN staging is of great importance since patients can benefit from an optimal staging, accordingly aligned therapy and more radical treatments. Current conventional cross-sectional imaging modalities [e.g., computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)] are not accurate enough to reliably detect early LN metastases as they rely on size criteria. Treatment of early childhood medulloblastoma by postoperative chemotherapy alone.

The prognosis for young children with medulloblastoma is poor, and survivors are at high risk for cognitive deficits. We conducted a trial of the treatment of this brain tumor by intensive postoperative chemotherapy alone.After surgery, children received three cycles of intravenous chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, methotrexate, carboplatin, and etoposide) and intraventricular methotrexate. BACKGROUND To determine the efficacy of intravenous indocyanine green (ICG) as an adjuvant to TTT for hypopigmented choroidal melanomas. PATIENTS AND METHODS ICG kinetics in melanoma tissue were evaluated by taking standardized ICG angiograms in 28 eyes with small choroidal melanomas. In a prospective non-randomized analysis 12 eyes with hypopigmented choroidal melanomas (posterior to the equator with thickness </= 4.5 mm) were treated with the TTT standard protocol developed by an intravenous injection of 100 mg ICG in 10 ml aqueous solvent 2 minutes after starting TTT.
