MANAGEMENT OF LEIOMYOMA OF THE TRANSVERSE COLON: CASE REPORT
2013
Colonic leiomyoma is a mesenchymal tumor that arises from the muscularis mucosae or muscularis propria and is composed of well-differentiated smooth muscle cells with no atypia. It is often incidentally found since its growth affects the submucosal layer and the lesion is covered with normal epithelium. Endoscopic ultrasonography is recommended to define the grade of infiltration of the tumor and eventually lymph node involvement. Histological examination is critical to establish the nature of the tumor and its behaviour. In the case of a voluminous tumor surgical treatment is needed. we report case of a patient that underwent colonoscopy showing the presence of a neoformation at 70 cm from…
Laparoscopic management of adrenal tumors: A four-year experience in a single center
2014
AIM: Today laparoscopy is considered the first choice treatment of many adrenal tumors, although its use is still controversial for large adrenal masses and incidentally found adrenal cortical carcinoma. METHODS: From January 2009 to February 2014 we performed 42 lateral transperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomies. The indications for surgery were non-functioning adenoma larger than 4 cm or rapid growth and hormone-secreting tumor. The diagnosis was confirmed in all cases with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging and also metaiodobenzylguanidine scintigraphy if pheochromocytoma was suspected. In all cases we realized a complete preoperative hormonal study. We describe and ana…

SURGERY IN PATIENTS WITH TESTICULAR MALIGNANT GERM CELL TUMORS: COMPLIANCE TO SURGICAL GUIDELINES AND RESULTS IN THE ITALIAN COOPERATIVE STUDY
2011
Purpose: Surgery represents a main and often the only treatment in patients with testicular Malignant Germ Cell Tumors (MGCT). We analyzed the compliance to surgical guidelines and the results in a series of patients with testicular MGCT -/+ retroperitoneal node involvement, without distant metastases. Method: 42 patients, observed in 15 Centers were enrolled in the Italian Cooperative Study on MGCT (January2004–December2010). 14/42 were younger than 2 y. of age, 28/42 between 13–18 y. Treatment was delivered according to COG-Staging-System: St.I patients (complete excision with inguinal orchifunicolectomy+decrease of markers, +hemiscrotectomy if scrotal involvement) did not receive further…

DCE and DSC perfusion MRI acquisition: diagnostic accuracy during the follow-up of the primary and metastatic intra-axial brain tumors treated by Ste…
Distinguishing radiation necrosis from tumor recurrence and tumor progression is crucial for the evaluation of treatment response and treatment planning. The appearance of treatment-induced tissue necrosis on conventional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are very similar to brain tumor recurrence and it could be difficult to differentiate the two entities during the follow-up MRI examinations. Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast-enhanced (DSC) and Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced (DCE) are the MRI perfusion techniques using an exogenous, intravascular, no diffusible gadolinium-based contrast agent. The aim of this study is to compare the diagnostic accuracy of DSC and DCE perfusion MRI in the differen…
EXTRAGONADAL GERM CELL TUMORS: Results of AIEOP TCG 91/98 Protocols
2002
The aim of the Study: To analyze the outcome of patirnts with extragonadal (eg) GCT teated with TCG 91/98 Protocols. 45 pts were enrolled: 34 were females, 11 males; median age 17 months (range: 1-137 months)

RESECTION of PRIMARY TUMOR at DIAGNOSIS in STAGE IV-s NEUROBLASTOMA: Does it Affect the Clinical Course?

To determine whether resection of primary tumor has a favorable influence on outcome of infants (age 0 to 11 months) with IV-s Neuroblastoma.
THE ROLE OF SURGERY (s) IN THE TREATMENT OF GERM CELL TUMORS (GCT) IN CHILDHOOD. A Report from an Italian Multi-Istitutional Study (TCG-91)
1993
GCT account for about 3% of all solidi Neoplasms in children. Because of the confusion as to their classification, diagnostic apporoach and treatment, a multi-istitutional study was carried and a National Protocol for Diagnosis and treatment of CGT (TCG-91), approved by AIEOP, straded in January 1991.
