Therapeutic application of T cell receptor mimic peptides or cDNA in the treatment of T cell-mediated skin diseases
2000
An 8-amino acid peptide encoding a sequence of the transmembrane region of the T cell receptor alpha chain (TCR-alpha) was shown to inhibit T cell function by preventing functional assembly of the T cell receptor (mimic peptide). To avoid systemic immunosuppression by peptide application in vivo, we used a topical application of the peptide. In the system of murine contact sensitivity, topical application of the peptide inhibited the elicitation of contact sensitivity following application of a contact allergen in sensitized animals. Alternatively, when naked DNA encoding the peptide sequence was injected into skin before application of a contact allergen to sensitized animals, local immuno…
Mouse langerhans cells differentially express an activated T cell-attracting CC chemokine.
1999
Epidermal Langerhans cells represent an immature population of dendritic cells, not yet able to prime naive T cells. Following in vitro culture Langerhans cells mature into potent immunostimulatory cells. We constructed a representative cDNA library of in vitro matured murine Langerhans cells. Applying a differential screening procedure 112 differentially expressed cDNA clones were isolated. Thirty-six clones represented cDNA fragments of the same gene, identifying it to be the most actively expressed gene induced in maturing Langerhans cells. A full-length cDNA was sequenced completely. The open reading frame codes for a protein of 92 amino acids containing a leader peptide of 24 amino aci…

Laser Ultrasonics Inspection of Train Wheel - Evaluation of Optimized Setup
2021
In the railway field, the safety of passengers and the service life of train components are a crucial issue. For this reason, continuous periodic inspections by non-destructive techniques are required. Among these, ultrasonic tests are widely used in this field, even though the conventional ultrasound techniques have the disadvantage of requiring the disassembly of the wheels and of putting the train out of service. This procedure is expensive and time-consuming and can be neglected if non-contact ultrasonic techniques are used. In this work, the authors present an experimental research on some defects, artificially obtained on a railway wheel supplied by Trenitalia Spa, by adopting three d…
Primary loading of palatal implants for orthodontic anchorage--a pilot animal study.
2006
Summary Objectives This study aimed at evaluating the clinical performance and osseointegration of short orthodontic implants immediately loaded with orthodontic forces. Material and methods The investigation was designed as an experimental animal study. Eight palatal implants of the Ortho-system® were immediately loaded with 100 cN after palatal insertion in 4 female german shepherd dogs. Xylene orange and calcein green were used for polychrome sequential labelling. Histological preparation utilized the cutting and grinding technique. Outcome variables were clinical implant success, histological osseointegration and bone-to-implant contact rates. Results All (8/8) implants were clinically …
Direct determination of oleic acid in soybean oil by capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection capillary electrophoresis in an oil-misc…
2014
Combined proton NMR wideline and NMR relaxometry to study SOM-water interactions of cation-treated soils
2013
Abstract Focusing on the idea that multivalent cations affect SOM matrix and surface, we treated peat and soil samples by solutions of NaCl, CaCl2 or AlCl3. Water binding was characterized with low field 1H-NMR-relaxometry (20 MHz) and 1H wideline NMR spectroscopy (400 MHz) and compared to contact angles. From 1H wideline, we distinguished mobile water and water involved in water molecule bridges (WaMB). Large part of cation bridges (CaB) between SOM functional groups are associated with WaMB. Unexpectedly, 1H NMRrelaxometry relaxation rates suggest that cross-linking in the Al-containing peat is not stronger than that by Ca. The relation between percentage of mobile water and WaMB water in…
Inhibition of skin inflammation in mice by diclofenac in vesicular carriers: Liposomes, ethosomes and PEVs
2013
Diclofenac-loaded phospholipid vesicles, namely conventional liposomes, ethosomes and PEVs (penetration enhancer-containing vesicles) were developed and their efficacy in TPA (phorbol ester) induced skin inflammation was examined. Vesicles were made from a cheap and unpurified mixture of phospholipids and diclofenac sodium; Transcutol P and propylene glycol were added to obtain PEVs, and ethanol to produce ethosomes. The structure and lamellar organization of the vesicle bilayer were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and small and wide angle X-ray scattering, as well as the main physico-chemical features. The formulations, along with a diclofenac solution and commercial Volta…
Wide-range cooling characteristics of a selected isotactic polypropylene
1997
Abstract An increased knowledge of polymer crystallization kinetics and its effect on the crystalline structure is of particular importance at high cooling rates. The aims of this study were to explore the range of utility and complementarity of various methods (densitometry, microscopy, wide-angle x-ray diffraction [WAXD], and small-angle light scattering [SALS]) on the characterization of the crystalline structure of a high purity isotactic polypropylene (PP) in a wider cooling range than previously obtainable and to identify characteristic ranges of the structure as a function of cooling rate. High cooling rates, ranging to nearly 1000°C/sec, were obtained using a special quench device. …
Crystallization kinetics of iPP: Influence of operating conditions and molecular parameters
2007
An analysis of the crystallization kinetics of different grades of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) is here presented. To describe the crystallization kinetics as a function of molecular and operating parameters, the methodological path followed was the preparation of quenched samples of known cooling histories, calorimetric crystallization isotherms tests, differential scanning calorimetry cooling ramps, wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) measurements, and density determination. The WAXD analysis performed on the quenched iPP samples confirmed that during the fast cooling at least a crystalline structure and a mesomorphic one form. The diffractograms were analyzed by a deconvolution procedur…
