School engagement in three Senegalese secondary schools

The purpose of the research was to examine how is the construct and the prediction of school engagement and affective, cognitive and behavior engagement subdimensions in Senegalese secondary school. Another matter of interest was to find out what kind of the support experiences students get from teachers, family and peers. The cross-sectional data of research consisted of Senegalese junior high school students (N＝571, age10 – 20 years) from three schools located in Fatick province, Senegal. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin opetusharjoitteluvuoden aikaista kemian aineenopettajaopiskelijoiden välistä vuorovaikutusta ja opettajaidentiteetin rakentumista sekä näihin liittyviä harjoittelijoiden kokemia ongelmia. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin vuoden 2014–2015 sekä 2015–2016 Jyväskylän yliopistossa kemian pedagogisiin aineopintoihin osallistuvia aineenopettajaopiskelijoita. Tutkimus toteutettiin kyselylomakkeella keväällä 2016. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin kemian aineenopettajaopiskelijoiden pitävän hyviä vuorovaikutustaitoja perusedellytyksenä opettajan työssä. Face and Content Validity of the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Water Competence in Young Children

An international group of experts have developed a pictorial tool to measure perceived water competence for children aged from 5 to 8 years old: the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Water Competence (PSPWC). The aim of the present study was to verify the validity of this tool. In the first part of the study, 120 children were interviewed to investigate face validity of the PSPWC to ensure that all pictorial items were understandable. Esittelemme tässä artikkelissa toisen kirjoittajan, Juhana Salosen, elämää autoetnografisesta näkökulmasta. Salonen on viittomakielinen kuuro, joka on kärsinyt nuoruudessaan vakavista psyykkisistä ongelmista epävarman identiteettinsä ja puutteellisten sosioemotionaalisten taitojensa vuoksi. Toinen artikkelin kirjoittaja Syväoja on kuuleva psykiatri ja Salosen äiti. Autoetnografisen tutkimuksemme tavoitteena on keskustella avoimesti Salosen elämästä sekä yhdistää sosiokulttuurinen ja lääketieteellinen näkökulma lähemmäksi toisiaan. Salonen is a Deaf person who suffered severe psychological problems in his youth because of uncertainty about his identity and a lack of social-emotional skills.
