Potential Application of Voltammetry of Microparticles for Dating Porcine Blood-based Binding Media used in Taiwanese Architectural Polychromies

2012

A method for dating Hemoglobine-containing archaeological samples using the voltammetry of microparticles is described. This is based on the record of the voltammetric response of such materials attached to paraffin-impregnated graphite electrodes in contact with aqueous acetate buffer. Signals attributable to the Fe(III)/Fe(II) iron couple and their catalytic enhancement in the presence of H(2)O(2) can be correlated, via first-order reaction kinetics, with the time of aging of the samples. The method has been applied to the study and dating of the polychromed architectural decoration of different parts of the architectural complex of the Longshan Temple in Lukang (18(th)  century, Taiwan).

PSMA6 (rs2277460, rs1048990), PSMC6 (rs2295826, rs2295827) and PSMA3 (rs2348071) genetic diversity in Latvians, Lithuanians and Taiwanese

2014

PSMA6 (rs2277460, rs1048990), PSMC6 (rs2295826, rs2295827) and PSMA3 (rs2348071) genetic diversity was investigated in 1438 unrelated subjects from Latvia, Lithuania and Taiwan. In general, polymorphism of each individual locus showed tendencies similar to determined previously in HapMap populations. Main differences concern Taiwanese and include presence of rs2277460 rare allele A not found before in Asians and absence of rs2295827 rare alleles homozygotes TT observed in all other human populations. Observed patterns of SNPs and haplotype diversity were compatible with expectation of neutral model of evolution. Linkage disequilibrium between the rs2295826 and rs2295827 was detected to be c…

Sinistä ja vihreää : taiwanilainen identiteetti englanninkielisen lehdistön poliittista skandaalia koskevissa diskursseissa

2010

Tutkielmassa selvitetään, miten taiwanilaiset sanomalehdet kuvasivat ja rakensivat taiwanilaista kansakuntaa presidentti Chen Shui-bianin korruptioskandaalin yhteydessä syksyllä 2006. Aineistona on kahden taiwanilaisen englanninkielisen sanomalehden, Taipei Timesin ja China Postin jutut. Pääaineistona on 40 pääkirjoitusta ja 38 asiantuntija-artikkelia, lisäaineistona on 120 uutista. Vertailuaineistona on lisäksi kahden kiinalaisen sanomalehden, China Dailyn ja Kansan päivälehden 26 uutista skandaalista. Skandaali alkoi marraskuussa 2006, kun syyttäjä asetti ensimmäistä kertaa Kiinan tasavallan historiassa presidentin vaimon syytteeseen korruptiosta: lahjusten ottamisesta, kavalluksesta ja v…

Lost in translation : implementing personal assistance in an East Asian context

2023

Since 2012, Taiwanese citizens with disabilities have been entitled to personal assistance from local authorities. To explore current features of personal assistance and barriers to its implementation, and distinguish it from homecare services, 33 disabled people and 12 staff members representing 10 local authorities in Taiwan were interviewed. Findings indicate that disabled people prefer personal assistance to homecare and perceive that relationships with their families have improved since the availability of personal assistance. However, many users’ needs are unmet due to insufficient hours of service and costly co-payments. Results also show that development of personal assistance has b…
