Evidence for the mechanosensor function of filamin in tissue development

2016

AbstractCells integrate mechanical properties of their surroundings to form multicellular, three-dimensional tissues of appropriate size and spatial organisation. Actin cytoskeleton-linked proteins such as talin, vinculin and filamin function as mechanosensors in cells, but it has yet to be tested whether the mechanosensitivity is important for their function in intact tissues. Here we tested, how filamin mechanosensing contributes to oogenesis in Drosophila. Mutations that require more or less force to open the mechanosensor region demonstrate that filamin mechanosensitivity is important for the maturation of actin-rich ring canals that are essential for Drosophila egg development. The ope…

Quantitation of talinolol in rat plasma by LC-MS-MS.

2010

The aim of this study was to develop and validate an assay based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to quantitate talinolol in rat plasma. After a simple protein precipitation step, separation was performed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography using gradient elution with acetonitrile-water-formic acid. Electrospray ionization in the positive ion mode with multiple reaction monitoring was used to analyze talinolol employing propranolol as internal standard. The calibration curve for talinolol was linear over the concentration range 1-250 ng/mL with a correlation coefficient0.995. The method was sensitive (limit of quantitation, 1 ng/mL) and had acceptable accuracy (85-115% …

How do illiterate adults react to metalinguistic training?

2013

The present study focuses on the capacity of illiterate adults to master three different metalinguistic tasks: judgment of phonological length of words, initial consonant deletion, and lexical segmentation of sentences. Illiterates’ performance, during a pre-test and after training, was compared with that of literates and partial illiterates (adults at the beginning of the process of acquiring literacy) who received the same training. In the pre-test, illiterates were lower than literates in the three tasks; and partial-illiterates were at an intermediate level in two of the tasks. The three groups profited from the training, especially illiterates and partial-illiterates for whom improveme…

Why have consumers opposed, postponed, and rejected Innovations during a pandemic? A Study of mobile payment Innovations

2021

The highly infectious nature of the COVID-19 virus has made the use of contactless payment methods a health exigency. Yet, consumers are resisting using mobile payments (m-payments) during the pandemic, a confounding behavior that needs to be better understood. The present study explicates this behavior by examining consumer resistance to m-payments during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it provides more granular findings by measuring three levels of resistance/non-adoption, namely, postponement, opposition, and rejection. In this way, the study adds depth to the literature, which has largely examined resistance at an aggregate level to yield generic findings. Toward this end, the study…

Vjera Katalinić: glazbeni izvori i jedinstvo europske kulture / Vjera Katalinić: Musical Sources and the Unity of European Culture

2020

The generation to which Vjera Katalinic belongs is that of those born about ten years after the end of the Second World War. It is the generation of young people who grew up in Zagreb, who through no fault of their own were obliged to pay for the faults of the fascist Ante Pavelić. Up until 1990, one must remember, Croatia was under ‘special surveillance’. Any proposal for change coming from this republic kindled the fear of a nationalist reflux, the worst syndrome for the Federation of Yugoslavia. The article analyses the career of Katalinic from the 1980s to her jubilee in 2020, and emphasises the outcomes from the time of her charge as director of the Institute of Musicological Research …

Refractive lens exchange with a multifocal diffractive aspheric intraocular lens

2012

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety, efficacy and predictability after refractive lens exchange with multifocal diffractive aspheric intraocular lens implantation. METHODS: Sixty eyes of 30 patients underwent bilateral implantation with AcrySof® ReSTOR® SN6AD3 intraocular lens with +4.00 D near addition. Patients were divided into myopic and hyperopic groups. Monocular best corrected visual acuity at distance and near and monocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance and near were measured before and 6 months postoperatively. RESULTS: After surgery, uncorrected visual acuity was 0.08 ± 0.15 and 0.11 ± 0.14 logMAR for the myopic and hyperopic groups, respectively (50% and 46.67% of patients ha…

Effect of single-dose and short-term administration of quercetin on the pharmacokinetics of talinolol in humans – Implications for the evaluation of …

2013

Quercetin has been shown to inhibit intestinal P-glycoprotein-mediated drug efflux. A crossover clinical study was performed in 10 healthy volunteers to assess the effect of single-dose and repeated quercetin intake on the pharmacokinetics of talinolol, a substrate of intestinal P-glycoprotein. Unexpectedly, mean area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC0-48h) and maximal plasma concentration (cmax) were slightly decreased following concomitant and short-term quercetin administration (3186.0 versus 2468.3 and 2527.7 ng h/ml, p>0.05; 309.7 versus 212.0 and 280.6 ng/ml, p>0.05). Individual analysis revealed that talinolol AUC0-48h was lowered by 23.9% up to 60.6% in 5 subjects and c…

Pretreatment with potent P-glycoprotein ligands may increase intestinal secretion in rats.

2001

The expression of P-glycoprotein is induced in cell cultures upon exposure to various inducers. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the in-vivo relevance of this observation, i.e. the influence of chronic pretreatments with selected drugs -- all of which are ligands to P-glycoprotein (P-gp) as demonstrated in radioligand binding studies and all of which have some or a considerable effect on P-gp expression in Caco-2 cells -- on the effective intestinal permeabilities of the model compound talinolol in rats employing in-situ single-pass intestinal perfusion of three different gut segments. Talinolol was selected, because it shows high selectivity for one of the exsorptive…
