‘Nonlocal’ dispersion cancelation with classical light

2009

We show a classical analog of the original nonlocal dispersion cancelation effect in intensity interferometry with stationary light obeying Gaussian statistics. The dispersion compensation is due to the uncorrelation of the spectral components of the radiation. Although this classical counterpart phenomenon is not nonlocal in a strict quantum mechanical sense, it suggests that some second-order interference devices relying on temporal entanglement do not require a quantum light source.

Simulation of matrix product states for dissipation and thermalization dynamics of open quantum systems

2020

Abstract We transform the system/reservoir coupling model into a one-dimensional semi-infinite discrete chain through unitary transformation to simulate the open quantum system numerically with the help of time evolving block decimation (TEBD) algorithm. We apply the method to study the dynamics of dissipative systems. We also generate the thermal state of a multimode bath using minimally entangled typical thermal state (METTS) algorithm, and investigate the impact of the thermal bath on an empty system. For both cases, we give an extensive analysis of the impact of the modeling and simulation parameters, and compare the numerics with the analytics.

Fractal dimension of superfluid turbulence : A random-walk toy model

2021

This paper deals with the fractal dimension of a superfluid vortex tangle. It extends a previous model [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. {\bf 43}, 205501 (2010)] (which was proposed for very low temperature), and it proposes an alternative random walk toy model, which is valid also for finite temperature. This random walk model combines a recent Nemirovskii's proposal, and a simple modelization of a self-similar structure of vortex loops (mimicking the geometry of the loops of several sizes which compose the tangle). The fractal dimension of the vortex tangle is then related to the exponents describing how the vortex energy per unit length changes with the length scales, for which we take recent pr…

Hyper-Entanglement in Time and Frequency

2019

Hyper-entanglement, i.e. entanglement in more than one degree of freedom, enables a multiplicative increase in Hilbert space size. Such systems can be treated as multi-partite even though the number of state particles is not increased, making them highly attractive for applications in high-capacity quantum communications and information processing [1]. Until now, such states have been realized only using combinations of fully independent degrees of freedom, described by commuting operators, such as polarization and optical paths. Time and frequency, in turn, are linked and described by non-commuting operators. Here, using two discrete forms of energy-time entanglement we demonstrate that ti…

Entanglement dynamics in a spin star system

2009

The implementation of more and more efficient nanodevices exploitable in applicative contexts like for example quantum computers often requires a highly challenging miniaturizing process aimed at packing a huge number of point-like basic elements whose dynamics mimics indeed that of a qubit. Stimulated by such a requirement, over the last few years theoretical schemes using the language of the spin ½ system models have been investigated. The main reason is that besides the simple dynamical behaviour of each elementary constituent these Hamiltonian models do indeed capture basic ingredients of several physical situations differing one another mainly for the numerical values of some relevant …

Quantum Entanglement and the Issue of Selective Influences in Psychology: An Overview

2012

Similar formalisms have been independently developed in psychology, to deal with the issue of selective influences (deciding which of several experimental manipulations selectively influences each of several, generally non-independent, response variables), and in quantum mechanics (QM), to deal with the EPR entanglement phenomena (deciding whether an EPR experiment allows for a "classical" account). The parallels between these problems are established by observing that any two noncommuting measurements in QM are mutually exclusive and can therefore be treated as analogs of different values of one and the same input. Both problems reduce to that of the existence of a jointly distributed syst…

A closed formula for the evaluation of foams

2020

International audience; We give a purely combinatorial formula for evaluating closed, decorated foams. Our evaluation gives an integral polynomial and is directly connected to an integral, equivariant version of colored Khovanov-Rozansky link homology categorifying the sl(N) link polynomial. We also provide connections to the equivariant cohomology rings of partial flag varieties.

Scaling On-Chip Entangled Photon States to Higher Dimensions

2017

Considerable efforts have recently focused on advancing quantum information pro- cessing by increasing the number of qubits (the simplest unit of quantum information) in nonclassical systems such as ultracold atoms and superconducting circuits. A complementary approach to scale up infor- mation content is to move from two-level (qubit) to multilevel (quDit) systems.

A Possible Time-Dependent Generalization of the Bipartite Quantum Marginal Problem

2018

In this work we study an inverse dynamical problem for a bipartite quantum system governed by the time local master equation: to find the class of generators which give rise to a certain time evolution with the constraint of fixed reduced states (marginals). The compatibility of such choice with a global unitary evolution is considered. For the non unitary case we propose a systematic method to reconstruct examples of master equations and address them to different physical scenarios.
