Recent continuous task studies, such as narrative speech comprehension, show that fluctuations in brain functional connectivity (FC) are altered and enhanced compared to the resting state. Here, we characterized the fluctuations in FC during comprehension of speech and time-reversed speech conditions. The correlations of Hilbert envelope of source-level EEG data were used to quantify FC between spatially separate brain regions. All previous work in inductive inference and theoretical machine learning has taken the perspective of looking for a learning algorithm that successfully learns a collection of functions. In this work, we consider the perspective of starting with a set of functions, and considering the collection of learning algorithms that are successful at learning the given functions. Some strong dualities are revealed.

Modern malware uses an abundance of techniques to evade both dynamic and static analysis tools. Information Abstraction from Crises Related Tweets Using Recurrent Neural Network

Social media has become an important open communication medium during crises. The information shared about a crisis in social media is massive, complex, informal and heterogeneous, which makes extracting useful information a difficult task. This paper presents a first step towards an approach for information extraction from large Twitter data. In brief, we propose a Recurrent Neural Network based model for text generation able to produce a unique text capturing the general consensus of a large collection of twitter messages. The generated text is able to capture information about different crises from tens of thousand of tweets summarized only in a 2000 characters text.

Goal Setting and Monetary Incentives: When Large Stakes Are Not Enough

The aim of this paper is to test the effectiveness of wage-irrelevant goal setting policies in a laboratory environment. In our design, managers can assign a goal to their workers by setting a certain level of performance on the work task. We establish our theoretical conjectures by developing a model in which assigned goals act as reference points to workers’ intrinsic motivation. Consistent with our model, we find that managers set goals which are challenging but attainable for an average-ability worker.
