Some thoughts about the conceptual / procedural distinction in translation: a key-logging and eye-tracking study of processing effort

This article builds on the conceptual / procedural distinction postulated by Relevance Theory to investigate processing effort in translation task execution. Drawing on relevance-theoretic assumptions, it assumes that instances related to procedural encodings will require more effortful processing not only in relation to the time spent on the task but also in terms of product indicators such as seconds per word and number of micro translation units per word. Drawing on key-logging and eye-tracking data, the article shows that there are statistically significant differences when conceptual and procedural encodings are analysed in selected areas of interest, with instances related to procedur…

In the Acts of Paul and Thecla (APTh) a cloud appears in the most important scenes of the tale. This motif is used to highlight the protection offered by God on behalf of the young woman and echoes that cloud appearing in Exodus guiding and protecting the Israelites. Thanks to these kinds of echoes, the author of the APTh tries to establish a connection between both scenes in his readers’ minds and builds, at the same time, the character of Thecla, portrayed as a virgin, a martyr or an apostle in different scenes of the narration. Testimonianza ne è l'inserimento e la pubblicazione di uno dei suoi saggi presso la casa editrice di Torino, fondata e diretta da Piero Gobetti. Tecla Navarra Masi, a young Sicilian writer, who died prematurely, was representative of that Sicilian culture which, at the beginning of the twentieth century, tried to escape from the restricted regional context. Testimony is the inclusion and publication of one of his essays at the Turin publishing house, founded and directed by Piero Gobetti.
