Mobile Security with Location-Aware Role-Based Access Control
2012
Published version of an article from the book: Security and privacy in mobile information and communication systems. Also available on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-30244-2_15 This paper describes how location-aware Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) can be implemented on top of the Geographically eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (GeoXACML). It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints (both static and dynamic) can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. Location-aware RBAC c…
On the Consistency of Non-Stationary Multipath Fading Channels with Respect to the Average Doppler Shift and the Doppler Spread
2017
This paper is concerned with the consistency of non-stationary multipath fading channels. We introduce conditions under which a channel model is consistent w.r.t. the average Doppler shift and the Doppler spread. The conditions are applied to two classes of non-stationary channel models. The first class, which is termed Class A, is characterized by channel models based on an integral relationship between the path phases and the associated time-variant Doppler frequencies. The second class of models, called the Class B models, emerges from standard sum-of-cisoids (SOC) models by replacing the time-independent Doppler frequencies by time-dependent Doppler frequencies. It is shown that the Cla…
5G IoT System for Real-Time Psycho-Acoustic Soundscape Monitoring in Smart Cities With Dynamic Computational Offloading to the Edge
2021
Environmental noise monitoring for smart cities need to be as much efficient as possible in order to mitigate its significant impact in the health of their inhabitants. 5G Internet of Things (IoT) systems offer a big opportunity to offload the computation from the sensor nodes, since it provides a series of new concepts for dynamic computing that the previous technologies did not offer. In this article, a complete 5G IoT system for psycho-acoustic monitoring has been designed and implemented using different options for offloading computation to different parts of the system. This offloading has been done by developing different functional splittings of the psycho-acoustic metrics algorithms…
Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Urban Acoustic Environments with Binaural Psycho-Acoustical Considerations for IoT-Based Applications
2018
Sound pleasantness or annoyance perceived in urban soundscapes is a major concern in environmental acoustics. Binaural psychoacoustic parameters are helpful to describe generic acoustic environments, as it is stated within the ISO 12913 framework. In this paper, the application of a Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network (WASN) to evaluate the spatial distribution and the evolution of urban acoustic environments is described. Two experiments are presented using an indoor and an outdoor deployment of a WASN with several nodes using an Internet of Things (IoT) environment to collect audio data and calculate meaningful parameters such as the sound pressure level, binaural loudness and binaural sharp…
A performance study of LTE MIMO-OFDM systems using the extended one-ring MIMO channel model
2012
In this paper, we consider a long-term evolution (LTE) system for the downlink by using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) techniques. The downlink channel is modeled by the socalled extended MIMO one-ring model. This model extends the well-known narrowband one-ring model with respect to frequency selectivity. The symbol error rate (SER) performance of the LTE MIMO-OFDM system is investigated for the downlink by employing different kinds of spatial encoders, where it is assumed that the channel state information (CSI) is perfectly known. For comparison, the space-time block coding (STBC) scheme, the vertical Bell Laboratories layered spac…
Routing Algorithm for Maximizing Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Network for Broadcast Transmission
2018
In the article we discuss solutions of the maximum lifetime broadcasting problem in wireless sensor networks. Due to limited energy resources of the network nodes to find an optimal transmission route of the broadcasted data we minimize the maximum energy consumed by the nodes. We give an analytical solution of the problem in one dimensional regular sensor network for the point-to-point and point-to-multipoint data transmission scheme. We show that in such a network, when the cost of data transmission is a polynomial function of distance between transmitter and receiver, there exist solutions with an equal energy, i.e., all nodes of the network consume the same amount of energy. We assume t…
The impact of spatial correlation on the statistical properties of the capacity of nakagami-m channels with MRC and EGC
2011
Published version of an article published in the journal: EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1687-1499-2011-116. OA In this article, we have studied the statistical properties of the instantaneous channel capacitya of spatially correlated Nakagami-m channels for two different diversity combining methods, namely maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC). Specifically, using the statistical properties of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio, we have derived the analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rat…
A limited feedback scheme based on spatially correlated channels for coordinated multipoint systems
2012
High spectral efficiency can be achieved in the downlink of multi-antenna coordinated multi-point systems provided that the multiuser interference is appropriately managed at the transmitter side. For this sake, downlink channel information needs to be sent back by the users, thus reducing the rate available at the uplink channel. The amount and type of feedback information required has been extensively studied and many limited feedback schemes have been proposed lately. A common pattern to all of them is that achieving low rates of feedback information is possible at the cost of increasing complexity at the user side and, sometimes, assuming that some statistics of the channel are known. I…
The influence of severity of fading on the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels with MRC and EGC
2010
In this article, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels when spatial diversity combining, such as maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC), is employed at the receiver. The presented results provide insight into the statistical properties of the channel capacity under a wide range of fading conditions in wireless links using L-branch diversity combining techniques. We have derived closed-form analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. The statistical properties of the capacity ar…
On the statistical properties of the capacity of amplify-and-forward channels under LOS conditions
2008
Amplify-and-forward channels in cooperative networks provide a promising improvement in the network coverage and system throughput. Under line-of-sight (LOS) propagation conditions in such cooperative networks, the overall fading channel can be modeled by a double Rice process. In this article, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of double Rice fading channels. We have derived the analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. The obtained results are studied for different values of the amplitudes of the LOS components in …
