Infiniviz: Taking Quake 3 Arena on a Large-Scale Display System to the Next Level

2018

The authors of this paper have previously presented a large-scale display system called Infiniviz in other publications. Infiniviz attempts to improve network bandwidth consumption and computational performance compared to other existing large-scale display systems. Since the previous publications have been made in early development stages of Infiniviz, only the overview of the software architecture and details of hardware implementation have been presented so far. This paper contains a real-life test of Infiniviz running Quake 3 Arena at a resolution of 9600 x 5400 at 24 fps. Also, in this paper, the authors have tried to match their results to what has been published by other researchers …

Article also available from publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/WCSP.2009.5371438 In this paper, we derive a non-stationary multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) channel model from the geometrical T-junction model. The propagation environment is assumed to be extremely non-isotropic. The proposed channel model takes into account double…

An Integrated System for Efficient Management of Distribution Networks: The System's Architecture and the Telecommunication Infrastructure

2006

Modern distribution systems must keep up with high power quality standards due to the new regulations of the European Community and of the different national legislations. Efficient faults management is one of the basic tasks utilities must accomplish and this objective can be attained if and only if automation is present and efficient diagnostic procedures have been implemented in the centralized or distributed units all over the network. In this paper, the architecture of an integrated system for management of modern distribution systems is presented. The system includes routines for normal on-line optimal operation of distribution systems and for outage management, the latter including f…

Diagnosis of Incipient Bearing Faults using Convolutional Neural Networks

2019

The majority of faults occurring in rotating electrical machinery is attributed to bearings. To reduce downtime, it is desired to apply various diagnostic methods so that bearing degradation can be detected in good time prior to a complete failure. The work presented in this paper utilizes a data-driven machine learning approach based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in order to diagnose different types of bearing faults. A one-dimensional CNN is trained on vibration signals and compared to a two-dimensional CNN trained in time-frequency domain using continuous wavelet transform (CWT). The proposed method is demonstrated on data collected from run-to-failure tests. The results show th…

GAIML: A New Language for Verbal and Graphical Interaction in Chatbots

2008

Natural and intuitive interaction between users and complex systems is a crucial research topic in human-computer interaction. A major direction is the definition and implementation of systems with natural language understanding capabilities. The interaction in natural language is often performed by means of systems called chatbots. A chatbot is a conversational agent with a proper knowledge base able to interact with users. Chatbots appearance can be very sophisticated with 3D avatars and speech processing modules. However the interaction between the system and the user is only performed through textual areas for inputs and replies. An interaction able to add to natural language also graph…

Data Transmission and Thermo-Optic Tuning Performance of Dielectric-Loaded Plasmonic Structures Hetero-Integrated on a Silicon Chip

2012

We demonstrate experimental evidence of the data capture and the low-energy thermo-optic tuning credentials of dielectric-loaded plasmonic structures integrated on a silicon chip. We show 7-nm thermo-optical tuning of a plasmonic racetrack-resonator with less than 3.3 mW required electrical power and verify error-free 10-Gb/s transmission through a 60-mu m-long dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguide. Combinatorial Double Auction Radio Resource Allocation Model in Crowd Networks

2018

International audience; Industrial Partners (IPs) with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are extending the mobile network infrastructure with Small Cells (SCs) in order to meet the growing mobile traffic demand. Due to the increasing number of telecommunication market competitors and the scarcity of radio resources, static sharing schemes are no more efficient. New dynamic schemes should be considered to meet both user expectations and economic success. In a crowd networking context, we propose in this work a dynamic radio resource scheme based on combinatorial double auctions. The participants in these auctions are the MNOs considered as buyers and the IPs, providers of SCs, considered as se…

More firms, more competition? The case of the fourth operator in France's mobile phone market

2010

Accepted, Forthcoming; International audience; To foster competition the French government authorized a fourth operator, ‘Free', to enter the country's mobile phone market at the end of 2009 alongside Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom (BT), who held respectively one-half, one-third and one-sixth of the market. By using a stylized model of France's phone market, we have examined what we call the regulator's nightmares and dreams. If Cournot competition is in place before Free's entry, minimizing the total profit fails to maximize the consumer surplus and the total surplus; the maximum most realistic price fall is 6.7% compared to three-way competition and could be 1.7% only; if Orange, SFR an…

Compression Methods for Microclimate Data Based on Linear Approximation of Sensor Data

2019

Edge computing is currently one of the main research topics in the field of Internet of Things. Edge computing requires lightweight and computationally simple algorithms for sensor data analytics. Sensing edge devices are often battery powered and have a wireless connection. In designing edge devices the energy efficiency needs to be taken into account. Pre-processing the data locally in the edge device reduces the amount of data and thus decreases the energy consumption of wireless data transmission. Sensor data compression algorithms presented in this paper are mainly based on data linearity. Microclimate data is near linear in short time window and thus simple linear approximation based …
