CADWAN – A Control Architecture for Dense Wi-Fi Access Networks

The growing demands of ubiquitous computing are leading towards the densification of wireless access networks. The challenges of high density deployments can be addressed by network- wide centralized control. To this end we propose CADWAN – a Control Architecture for efficient management of Dense Wi-Fi Access Networks. Its main advantages are: flexibility (it supports software- defined wireless networking), scalability (it uses a three-tier optimization framework), and extendibility (it exploits a unified control interface with support for heterogeneous devices). Furthermore, CADWAN is complementary to ongoing developments in IEEE 802.11, especially 802.11ax.

Network virtualization has been extensively researched in the last years as a key enabler for improving the network performance. Phase lock loop false lock avoidance in presence of global navigation satellite system signal

In this paper we analyse the operation of a fully digital Phase Lock Loop (PLL) in a false lock regime, using real data. The issue has been noticed while we were testing performance of our software receiver in a moving user scenario. While the phenomenon of false lock has been described in other papers about PLLs, our intent is to describe a practical, and in our opinion interesting, issue we encountered and how we got over it.

The effect of body shape and gender on wireless Body Area Network on-body channels

Technological advancements have made possible the emergence of Body Area Networks (BANs). There are numerous on-body channel characterizations in the literature performed on a phantom or a single human subject. In this paper, using multiple subjects, we consider the effect of body shape and gender on the on-body channel. A characterization of a narrowband on-body to on-body channel among different subjects is presented. Simple method for limiting delay of optimized interleavers for turbo-codes

An iterative interleaver growth algorithm is extended to allow the delay and required memory of designed interleavers to be halved with negligible performance loss. The original algorithm is efficient for two-component parallel concatenated turbo-codes with given constituent encoders that are optimum with regard to a cost function satisfying some mild conditions. However, it is only actually optimum if the selected set of patterns is representative of low-weight turbo-codewords. The new interleaver uses all terminating error patterns having an input weight not greater than a fixed IWX and single-coder output weight not greater than WX is proposed.

The demand for the IEEE 802.11 wireless local-area networks (WLANs) has been drastically increasing along with many emerging applications and services over WLAN. However, the IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) is known to be limited in terms of its throughput performance due to the high MAC overhead, such as interframe spaces (IFS) or per-frame based acknowledgement (ACK) frame transmissions.
