Multiparticle emission in the decay ofAr31

2014

A multihit capacity setup was used to study the decay of the dripline nucleus Ar-31, produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. A spectroscopic analysis of the beta-delayed three-proton decay of Ar-31 is presented for the first time together with a quantitative analysis of the beta-delayed 2p gamma decay. A new method for determination of the spin of low-lying levels in the beta p daughter 30S using proton-proton angular correlations is presented and used to determine that the spin of the 5.2-MeV level is most likely 3(+) with 4(+) also possible. Recoil-beta tagging: A novel technique for studying proton-drip-line nuclei

Abstract Tagging with charged particles and γ -rays at the focal plane of recoil separators has proven, over the last two decades, to be a very powerful tool for the identification of excited states in exotic nuclei produced with very low cross-sections. One of the key areas so far unexplored in terms of the tagging methodology has been performing correlations with β -particles at the focal plane of a recoil separator. A new technique entitled Recoil-Beta Tagging (RBT) has been developed, this technique exploits the unusual properties of Fermi super-allowed β emitters, which have both a short half-life ( ∼ 100 ms ) and high β + -endpoint energy. Gas-silicon detector telescope for charged particle spectroscopy

Abstract A gas-silicon detector telescope for charged particle spectroscopy has been constructed and tested. The lower detection limits were determined to be 155 keV for protons, 180 keV for deuterons and 350 keV for alpha particles. Typical energy resolution of the telescope measured for beta-delayed protons is 20 keV. Time resolution for the signals of the telescope was measured to be less than 10 ns. Examples of using the detector telescope in detection of beta-delayed proton activities are presented.

Rejection Power of A Horizontal Rpc Telescope For Left and Right Coming Cosmic Muons

Abstract The possibility of performing neutrino astronomy by means of a detector above the ground depends critically on the feasibility of a rejection power on the order of 10 11 required to discriminate the enormous background of cosmic downward going muons from the signal of upward going muons produced by neutrinos. In order to check whether and how this rejection is obtainable, we have built in the Physics Department of the University of Bari a horizontal cosmic muon telescope (MINI) instrumented with resistive plate counters. Background in low Earth orbits measured by LEGRI telescope – short and long term variability

Abstract In this paper we present the first Low Energy Gamma Ray Imager (LEGRI) background measurements which were carried out in the earlier nominal operation activities of LEGRI Instrument on board MINISAT-01, after initial spacecraft and instrument check-up procedures. Short term (daily) and expected long term background variability is presented. A background model is also discussed in order to be used for celestial γ-ray emitters observations.

While some space born observatories, such as SWIFT and FERMI, have been operating, early observation of optical after grow of GRBs is still remained as an unexplored region. The Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) project is a space observatory for optical follow-ups of GRBs, aiming to explore the first 60 seconds of GRBs optical emission. Using fast moving mirrors to redirect our optical path rather than slewing the entire spacecraft, UFFO is utilized to catch early optical emissions from GRB within 1 sec. A CdTe position sensitive spectrometer for hard X- and soft γ-ray polarimetry

Coded Imager and Polarimeter for High Energy Radiation (CIPHER) is a hard X- and soft gamma- ray spectroscopic and polarimetric coded mask telescope based on an array of Cadmium telluride microspectrometers. The position sensitive detector (PSD) will be arranged in 4 modules of 32 x 32 crystals, each of 2 x 2 mm(2) cross-section and 10 mm thickness giving a total active area of about 160 cm(2), operating over a wide energy range (similar to10 keV to 1 MeV). Tests of Lobster Eye Optics for Small Space X-ray Telescope

Abstract The Lobster eye design for a grazing incidence X-ray optics provides wide field of view of the order of many degrees, for this reason it can be a convenient approach for the construction of space all-sky X-ray monitors. We present preliminary results of tests of prototype lobster eye X-ray optics in quasi parallel beam full imaging mode conducted using the 35 m long X-ray beam-line of INAF-OAPA in Palermo (Italy). X-ray images at the focal plane have been taken with a microchannel plate (MCP) detector at several energy values from 0.3 to 8 keV. The gain, the field of view and the angular resolution have been measured and compared with theoretical values.

A Compact Solid State Detector for Small Angle Particle Tracking

MIDAS (MIcrostrip Detector Array System) is a compact silicon tracking telescope for charged particles emitted at small angles in intermediate energy photonuclear reactions. It was realized to increase the angular acceptance of the DAPHNE detector and used in an experimental program to check the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule at the Mainz electron microtron, MAMI. MIDAS provides a trigger for charged hadrons, p/pi identification and particle tracking in the region 7 deg < theta < 16 deg. In this paper we present the main characteristics of MIDAS and its measured performances.

A portable telescope based on the ALIBAVA system for test beam studies

Abstract A test beam telescope has been built using the ALIBAVA system to drive its data acquisition. The basic telescope planes consist of four XYT stations. Each station is built from a detector board with two strip sensors, mounted one in each side (strips crossing at 90°). The ensemble is coupled to an ALIBAVA daughter board. These stations act as reference frame and allow a precise track reconstruction. The system is triggered by the coincidence signal of the two scintillators located up and down stream.
