Anticipation as Platform Power : The Temporal Structuring of Digital Everyday Life
2023
This article explores anticipation as a temporal structure in digital platforms. It contributes to the growing research of platformisation of everyday life by focusing on temporality as a central dimension of platform power, a key mechanism tying participants by structuring intimacies, socialities, and relations that platforms enable and engender. The article shows how the temporality of foreboding, prospecting and speculating about one’s own and other’s social media presence and actions permeates the user experience. Studying media diaries and interviews with participants from different social and occupational groups (politicians, actors, the unemployed, undocumented migrants), the article…
Temporal perspective on the gender-related differences in online learning behaviour
2022
Although several studies suggested considering gender in online learning, the literature about how male and female students would behave is fragmented. Little attention has been paid to the effect of gender on online learning behavioural patterns. This study aimed at investigating the roles of gender in online learning behaviours by analyzing the gender-related differences of students’ online learning behavioural patterns. We used the case study approach with descriptive statistical analysis, lag sequential analysis, and temporal log data analysis to investigate gender-related differences in students’ online learning behaviours. The results indicated no significant difference in the counts …

Zarządzanie czasem jako próba opanowania chaosu
2016

Representation and retrieval of uncertain temporal information in museum databases
2012
An implementation-oriented model to represent uncertain temporal information in databases is proposed. Temporal information is presented to the user as anchored time intervals with optional beginning and end dates. The model accounts for both instants and intervals, and can be applied to uncertain dates by leaving days and months optional, or by using symbolic constraints that present additional time granularities. The model is defined using conventional relational database structures to support ease of deployment and integration to legacy systems with efficient query capabilities. The model is based on experiences with an existing museum database and highlights challenges related to tempor…
The role of circulating and exosomal miRNAs as biomarkers of drug-resistant epilepsy
Epilepsy is estimated to affect about 65 million individuals worldwide, with up to 30 percent of drug-resistant patients who do not have remission despite appropriate therapy with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Therefore, it is important to distinguish drug-resistant epilepsy early in the course of disease to start a specific therapeutical approach as soon as possible. Recently circulating miRNAs have been proposed as promising biomarkers for different neurodegenerative disorders, including epilepsy. MiRNAs are a class of small non-coding RNA that regulate gene expression at a post-transcriptional level. The regulatory mechanisms controlling translation of mRNA transcripts represents to date a…
Sensory testing in new product development: working with children
2015
Abstract This chapter aims at briefly reviewing applications of sensory descriptive testing methods with children, as well as their limits in relation to the cognitive development of children. Children’s sensory perceptions and preferences may differ from those of adults, which may make working directly with children a must for successful product development, at least at some stages of product development. However, most reported studies with children have characterized their preferences. Some studies have used discrimination tests and ranking tasks to gain knowledge about differences among products, or about sensory abilities development. A much smaller number of studies have involved child…
LA PERCEZIONE DEL TEMPO
2005
This paper reviews psychological research on time perception. In view of the wastness of this topic, we only focus on temporal memory, i.e. time duration estimation. We will present the main psychological theories, elaborated in the first laboratories. Finally, both the current cognitivist and chronobiological models and theories will be introduced.
