Living on a knife’s edge: Temporal conflicts in welfare service work

This article considers the temporal variations of agency from the point of view of social and health care workers’ experiences and the social structures and practices of the contemporary public service sector. It is based on an interview study of 24 Finnish welfare service workers. The results show that the public service sector increasingly operates according to market principles and an economic-rationalistic framing of time, contrary to the relational understanding of time in care practices. To maintain their sense of self as skilled professionals, workers actively reassess and adjust their identities according to the exigencies of working life, but not without difficulties. This thesis presents a semi-analytical approach for the search of (3+1)D spatio-temporal soliton solutions of the complex cubic-quintic Ginzburg-Landau equation (GL3D).We use a semi-analytical method called collective coordinate approach, to obtain an approximate profile of the unknown pulse field. This ansatz function is chosen to be a function of a finite number of parameters describing the light pulse.By applying this collective corrdinate procedure to the GL3D equation, we obtain a system of variational equations which give the evolution of the light bullet parameters as a function of the propagation distance. Identification of points of attraction and network analysis for GPS tracking data

Global positional system data provide accurate information on units’ movements from both the temporal and the spatial perspective. Several aspects of these movements can be analyzed according to the aim of interest. In this study, we focus on statistical methods for the identification of points of interest and for the analysis of the network of movements for GPS data. A density-based cluster algorithm is applied to summarize the vast amount of information and to find the most relevant points of attraction.
