Gamma Oscillations in the Temporal Pole Reflect the Contribution of Approach and Avoidance Motivational Systems to the Processing of Fear and Anger W…
2022
Prior reports suggest that affective effects in visual word processing cannot be fully explained by a dimensional perspective of emotions based on valence and arousal. In the current study, we focused on the contribution of approach and avoidance motivational systems that are related to different action components to the processing of emotional words. To this aim, we compared frontal alpha asymmetries and brain oscillations elicited by anger words associated with approach (fighting) motivational tendencies, and fear words that may trigger either avoidance (escaping), approach (fighting) or no (freezing) action tendencies. The participants’ task was to make decisions about approaching or dis…
Spectro-temporal reflectance surfaces: a new conceptual framework for the integration of remote-sensing data from multiple different sensors
2012
The conflict between spatial and temporal resolution of satellite systems, as well as the frequent presence of clouds in the images, has been a traditional limitation of remote sensing in the optical domain. Nevertheless, most of the conceptual tools and algorithms developed classically in remote sensing are based on the input of a series of cloud-free images from identical sensors. In this study, we propose a conceptual framework that is able to ingest data from several different sensors, make them homogeneous, eliminate clouds virtually, and make them usable in a flexible, efficient, and transparent way. The methodology is based on previous developments such as spatial ‘downscaling’, temp…
C9ORF72 in a Large Series of Italian and Sardinian Familial and Sporadic ALS Patients (IN9-1.003)
2012
Objective: To assess the frequency and the phenotype of a large series of Italian sALS and fALS with C9ORF72 repeat expansions. Background Recently we found that large expansions of hexanucleotide repeats (GGGGCC) in the first intron of the C9ORF72 gene, located in the chromosome 9p21, are related to familial and sporadic ALS cases(Renton et al, 2011). Design/Methods: We assessed 126 index fALS (106 Italians, 20 of Sardinians) and 601 sALS (485 Italians, 116 Sardinians), negative for other ALS-related genes mutations. Patients were collected through the ITALSGEN consortium. Repeat primer PCR to screen the presence of the hexanucleotide expansion in the first intron of C9ORF72 have been perf…
Tentorial Incision vs. Retraction of the Tentorial Edge during the Subtemporal Approach: Anatomical Comparison in Cadaveric Dissections and Retrospec…
2018
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to compare tentorial incision (group A) versus retraction and tack up suture (group B) of the tentorial edge during the subtemporal approach for surgery in the high basilar region. Design 24 cadaveric dissections and 4 clinical cases of aneurysms of the high basilar region are presented. Assessment included visibility and operability afforded by either tentorial incision creating a dural flap (group A) or retraction of the tentorial edge and tethering with a suture (group B). Four patients, two with superior cerebellar artery aneurysms and two with proximal posterior cerebral artery aneurysms were treated with each approach. Results In the quanti…
Intratumoral Heterogeneity, Its Contribution to Therapy Resistance and Methodological Caveats to Assessment
2014
Cancer is one of the most urgent health issues of today. According to WHO, the number of cancer cases is expected to increase by 75% in the next two decades (1). Despite some remarkable achievements in the fields of cancer prevention and early detection, the goal of developing effective anti-cancer therapies still remains unmet. Tumor recurrence due to treatment resistance is the most common cause of death from cancer. Delineating cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tumor recurrence is of prime importance for the ability to improve the efficacy of existing therapies and develop new strategies to cancer treatment.
Out of time? - Music, consciousness states and neuropharmacological mechanisms of an altered temporality
2009
Drug-induced altered temporality is a well-known effect of cannabis action that is utilised from musicians and music listeners for music appreciation since the early days of jazz. Cannabis has an influence on timing processes at short time scales of hundreds of milliseconds as O’Leary et al (2003) have shown in their tapping studies, proving evidence of an altered cerebellar functioning. This paper will focus on cannabis and its action on timing and aims to discuss selected scientific streams of research on the neurophysiological and neuropharmacological base of timing mechanisms in terms of an social pharmacology of music (Fachner, 2009). The mechanisms behind this altered temporality rema…
Interictal Heart Rate Variability Analysis Reveals Lateralization of Cardiac Autonomic Control in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.
2020
International audience; Purpose: The temporal lobe, a critical hub for cognition, also plays a central role in the regulation of autonomic cardiovascular functions. Lesions in this area are usually associated with abnormalities in the regulation of heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP). The analysis of the heart rate variability (HRV) is useful to evaluate the cardiac parasympathetic nervous system activity. This study aims at comparing HRV changes occurring in two groups of patients suffering from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE). To that aim, we evaluated patients differentiated by the right or left location of the epileptic foci. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two adult patients with a diagn…

Georges Candilis, architettura in divenire - Habitat adapté, climatique, évolutif
2014
The thesis reconstructs the roots of the architectural sustainability proposing an investigation about the birth of the concept of habitat within the CIAM and their development by Team 10. The study of the production of Candi…
Voluntary Imitation in Alzheimer’s Disease Patients
2016
International audience; Although Alzheimer's disease (AD) primarily manifests as cognitive deficits, the implicit sensorimotor processes that underlie social interactions, such as automatic imitation, seem to be preserved in mild and moderate stages of the disease, as is the ability to communicate with other persons. Nevertheless, when AD patients face more challenging tasks, which do not rely on automatic processes but on explicit voluntary mechanisms and require the patient to pay attention to external events, the cognitive deficits resulting from the disease might negatively affect patients' behavior. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether voluntary motor imitation, i.e.…
