A high resolution search for the tensor glueball candidate ξ(2230)

2001

Abstract We report results of a high resolution search for the tensor glueball candidate ξ(2230) in a p p formation experiment. π0π0 and ηη decay channels were measured in a scan of the mass region 2220 MeV to 2240 MeV. No evidence for the existence of ξ(2230) was found. 95% confidence upper limits for the possible existence of ξ are presented.

Tensor Network Annealing Algorithm for Two-Dimensional Thermal States

2019

Tensor network methods have become a powerful class of tools to capture strongly correlated matter, but methods to capture the experimentally ubiquitous family of models at finite temperature beyond one spatial dimension are largely lacking. We introduce a tensor network algorithm able to simulate thermal states of two-dimensional quantum lattice systems in the thermodynamic limit. The method develops instances of projected entangled pair states and projected entangled pair operators for this purpose. It is the key feature of this algorithm to resemble the cooling down of the system from an infinite temperature state until it reaches the desired finite-temperature regime. As a benchmark we …

Parallel implementation of the MAGPACK package for the analysis of high-nuclearity spin clusters

2010

Abstract Molecular clusters are formed by a finite number of exchange-coupled paramagnetic centers and they are model systems between molecules and extended solids. In order to simulate their properties and extrapolate to solids, the size of the systems to be treated should be as large as possible. In this context, the use of efficient parallel codes is essential. We present the parallel programs ParAni and ParIso , for anisotropic and isotropic models, that enable the calculation of large energy matrices in parallel and the subsequent computation of the relevant spectral information. The evaluation of the matrix elements is based on the serial package Magpack that uses the irreducible tens…

Probing new physics in B¯0→D(*)τ−ν¯τ using the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization components of the tau lepton

2017

We study the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization components of the tau lepton in the decays ${\overline{B}}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{(*)}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\tau}}$ and discuss their role in searching for new physics (NP) beyond the standard model (SM). Starting with a model-independent effective Hamiltonian including non-SM four-Fermi operators, we obtain experimental constraints on different NP scenarios and investigate their effects on the polarization observables. In the SM the longitudinal and transverse polarizations of the tau lepton differ substantially from the corresponding zero lepton mass values of $…

Light-by-light scattering sum rules in light of new data

2016

We evaluate the light-quark meson contributions to three exact light-by-light scattering sum rules in light of new data by the Belle Collaboration, which recently has extracted the transition form factors of the tensor meson $f_2(1270)$ as well as of the scalar meson $f_0(980)$. We confirm a previous finding that the $\eta, \eta^\prime$ and helicity-2 $f_2(1270)$ contributions saturate one of these sum rules up to photon virtualities around 1 GeV$^2$. At larger virtualities, our sum rule analysis shows an important contribution of the $f_2(1565)$ meson and provides a first empirical extraction of its helicity-2 transition form factor. Two further sum rules allow us to predict the helicity-0…

Towards a New Minimal SO(10) Unification

2012

We argue that non-supersymmetric SO(10) models based on a renormalizable Higgs sector in which spontaneous symmetry breaking is triggered by the VEVs of a 45-dimensional adjoint and a 126-dimensional tensor representations can provide a potentially realistic yet relatively simple framework for a future robust estimate of the proton lifetime. Following closely the work Phys.Rev.D85, 095014 (2012), arXiv: 1202.0807 [hep-ph] we comment on the gauge unification constraints on the B-L breaking scale and show that there are several regions in the parameter space of the minimal model where the seesaw scale in the phenomenologically favoured ballpark of around 10^13-14 GeV is consistently supported.

Tunable scattering cancellation of light using anisotropic cylindrical cavities

2016

Engineered core-shell cylinders are good candidates for applications in invisibility and cloaking. In particular, hyperbolic nanotubes demonstrate tunable ultra-low scattering cross section in the visible spectral range. In this work we investigate the limits of validity of the condition for invisibility, which was shown to rely on reaching an epsilon near zero in one of the components of the effective permittivity tensor of the anisotropic metamaterial cavity. For incident light polarized perpendicularly to the scatterer axis, critical deviations are found in low-birefringent arrangements and also with high-index cores. We demonstrate that the ability of anisotropic metallodielectric nanoca…

Null conformal Killing-Yano tensors and Birkhoff theorem

2015

We study the space-times admitting a null conformal Killing-Yano tensor whose divergence defines a Killing vector. We analyze the similitudes and differences with the recently studied non null case (Gen. Relativ. Grav. (2015) {\bf 47} 1911). The results by Barnes concerning the Birkhoff theorem for the case of null orbits are analyzed and generalized.

NON-LINEAR MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL AND THERMAL PHENOMENA IN PIEZOELECTRIC CRYSTALS

2003

Mechanical, electrical and thermal phenomena occurring in piezoelectric crystals were examined by non-linear approximation. For this purpose, use was made of the thermodynamic function of state, which describes an anisotropic body. Considered was the Gibbs function. The calculations included strain tensor εij = f(σkl , En, T), induction vector Dm = f(σkl , En, T) and entropy S = f(σkl , En, T) as function of stress σkl , field strength En and temperature difference T. The equations obtained apply to anisotropic piezoelectric bodies provided that the “forces” σkl , En, T acting on the crystal are known. A Rainich-like approach to the Killing-Yano tensors

2002

The Rainich problem for the Killing-Yano tensors posed by Collinson \cite{col} is solved. In intermediate steps, we first obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for a 2+2 almost-product structure to determine the principal 2--planes of a skew-symmetric Killing-Yano tensor and then we give the additional conditions on a symmetric Killing tensor for it to be the square of a Killing-Yano tensor. We also analyze a similar problem for the conformal Killing-Yano and the conformal Killing tensors. Our results show that, in both cases, the principal 2--planes define a maxwellian structure. The associated Maxwell fields are obtained and we outline how this approach is of interest in studying …
