Mean-field games and dynamic demand management in power grids

2013

This paper applies mean-field game theory to dynamic demand management. For a large population of electrical heating or cooling appliances (called agents), we provide a mean-field game that guarantees desynchronization of the agents thus improving the power network resilience. Second, for the game at hand, we exhibit a mean-field equilibrium, where each agent adopts a bang-bang switching control with threshold placed at a nominal temperature. At equilibrium, through an opportune design of the terminal penalty, the switching control regulates the mean temperature (computed over the population) and the mains frequency around the nominal value. To overcome Zeno phenomena we also adjust the ban…

Unique distal size selectivity with a digold catalyst during alkyne homocoupling

2015

Metal-catalysed chemical reactions are often controlled by steric hindrance around the metal atom and it is rare that substituents far away of the reaction site could be differentiated during reaction, particularly if they are simple alkyl groups. Here we show that a gold catalyst is able to discriminate between linear carbon alkynes with 10 or 12 atoms in the chain during the oxidative homocoupling of alkynes: the former is fully reactive and the latter is practically unreactive. We present experimental evidences, which support that the distal size selectivity occurs by the impossibility of transmetallating two long alkyl chains in an A-framed, mixed-valence digold (I, III) acetylide compl…

Quali confini per l'autodeterminazione?

2017

In quanto componente d…

Dural splitting reconstruction in retethering after lipomeningocele repair: Technical note

2021

Background: Tethered spinal cord syndrome (TCS) can occur after the surgical repair of lipomeningoceles (LMCs). In these cases, the tethering results from postoperative adhesions between the spinal cord and the overlying repaired dura. A watertight dural closure using the residual dura and/or the surrounding tissues does not always provide enough space for the spinal cord and risks retethering. Here, we report a 16-year-old patient with secondary TCS following lipomeningocele repair who successfully underwent release of the tethered filum terminale utilizing a novel dural splitting reconstructive technique to attain a water-tight closure without the need for a duroplasty. Methods: A 16-yea…

Distribution of PSA-NCAM expression in the amygdala of the adult rat.

2002

Synaptic plasticity in the amygdala appears to be necessary for the generation of emotional memories. However, the molecular bases of this plasticity are not fully understood. Because the polysialylated form of the neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM) has been implicated in memory consolidation in the hippocampus and temporal cortex, we have studied in detail the expression of this molecule in the adult rat amygdala with an antibody against PSA-NCAM. Our results demonstrate for the first time the presence of PSA-NCAM in the adult rat amygdala. Immunoreactive somata and processes are abundant in the amygdalo-hippocampal transition area, central nucleus, intra-amygdaloid bed nucleus of th…

Ein neuer Syntheseweg zu Offenkettigen und cyclischen Oligoetherketonen

1998

A Novel Synthetic Route to Open-Chained and Cyclic Oligoetherketones Oligoetherketones of the structure 2a,b can be generated by repetitive insertion reactions of terminal biscarbenoids 4a,b, into the OH bonds of diols like 5. The formation of the corresponding ring systems 7a and the involved carbene dimerization leading to 8b are processes which compete with the linear polyinsertion. A related one-component reaction can be performed with ω-hydroxy-1-diazo-2-alkanones (13a–c 14a–c).

Master-Slave Control of Battery/Supercapacitor Based Hybrid Energy Storage System for E-Vehicle Application

2022

In this paper, management and control problem of hybrid energy storage system (HESS) has been solved by master-slave control strategy. Heuristic fuzzy rules based algorithm is developed for optimal power sharing between different power sources. The master control is followed by a slave level controller, designed by using terminal synergetic control method for tracking. Moreover, the stability analysis of closed-loop system has been carried out by using lyapunov theory. Finally, the proposed method has been tested in MATLAB/Simulink environment under Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Local Expected Shortfall-Hedging

2001

This paper proposes a self-financing trading strategy that minimizes the expected shortfall locally when hedging a European contingent claim. A positive shortfall occurs if the hedger is not willing to follow a perfect hedging or a superhedging strategy. In contrast to the classical variance criterion, the expected shortfall criterion depends only on undesirable outcomes where the terminal value of the written option exceeds the terminal value of the hedge portfolio. Searching a strategy which minimizes the expected shortfall is equivalent to the iterative solution of linear programs whose number increases exponentially with respect to the number of trading dates. Therefore, we partition th…
