Normoglycemic Wistar rats' Glycated Hemoglobin Levels (GHL) showed a time-dependent difference between control groups and those exposed to regular inhalation of peroxidizing extracts of turpentine. These extracts were able to optimize the oxygen permeation at the cellular level during and subsequently to a breathing session. The more the rats breathed turpentine peroxidized vapor, the lower their GHL was. Abstract A new ether lipid core (designated as FU) was found in Methanothermus fervidus total lipid. Comparison with caldarchaeol showed lower mobility of FU on TLC and smaller molecular weight (m/z 1298) by 2 mass units on FAB-MS. Treatment of FU with HI followed by displacement with silver acetate afforded long chain alcohol acetate (ROAc), which was further saponified with mild alkali to its free alcohol (ROH). ROH is the long chain alcohol prepared from FU. The molecular weights of ROAc and ROH were shown by MS to be 1354 and 1186, respectively. Syntheses of (+)-alismoxide and (+)-4-epi-alismoxide.

The first total syntheses of (+)-alismoxide and (+)-4-epi-alismoxide are reported. Formal chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective addition of water to 10alpha-acetoxy-1alphaH,5betaH-guaia-3,6-diene afforded the target compounds after reduction. The absolute stereochemistry of (+)-alismoxide has been established. The low [alpha](D) +8.6 value indicates that significant amounts of alismoxide result from biosynthetic processes. Furthermore, the structure of the natural guaienediol isolated from Silphium perfoliatum has been corrected to (-)-alismoxide.
Triterpenoid saponins from the roots of two Gypsophila species.

Two triterpenoid saponins with two known ones have been isolated from the roots of Gypsophila arrostii var. nebulosa, and two new ones from the roots of Gypsophila bicolor. The chemical compositions of the essential oils obtained from leaves and flowers of Helichrysum pallasii were analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Among the 102 identified constituents, hexadecanoic acid (16.2%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (6.8%), tetradecanoic acid (2.6%), and (Z)-caryophyllene (4.2%) were the main constituent of the oil from leaves, while in the oil from flowers hexadecanoic acid (14.7%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (14.2%), (Z)-caryophyllene (3.6%), and delta-cadinene (3.1%) predominated. 20-Hydroxyecdysone has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of l(2)mbn cells, causes vacuolization and fragmentation of cells, and promotes a strong phagocytotic activity. From several lines of evidence, it can be concluded that 20-hydroxyecdysone induces apoptosis. Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves are a natural source of diterpenic glycosides, and various bioactive compounds. The objectives were to characterize antioxidants and steviol glycosides in the extracts obtained from Stevia after "green" pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE). PHWE extracts were obtained at different temperatures (100, 130, 160 °C); static extraction times (5 and 10 min), and cycle numbers (1, 2, 3) using a constant pressure of 10.34 MPa. Temperature was the most important parameter for extraction, where the highest recoveries of all bioactive compounds (except for carotenoids) were at 160 °C.
