Methodological analysis of the spanish production on doctoral thesis in mathematical education (1976-1998)

2004

This study shows a comprehensive vision of the Mathematics Education at methodological level, using as base the doctoral dissertations (thesis) accomplished in Spanish universities between the years 1976-1998. A central finding of this study has been the design of an evaluation methodological instrument, which will be useful for the future analysis of research. In addition general recommendations are offered with the aim to improve quality of the research in Mathematics Education.

The Development of a new Philosophy of Physics in the 18th Century

2012

The study of books on physics published in the 18th century shows that the evolution since the 17th century is much more than just a furthering of the discoveries of Newton, as we often tend to present it these days. Descartes’s mechanistic physics, severely criticized by Newton, was to develop with help from many scientists, particularly from the Academy of Sciences in Paris. The discussions between Cartesians and Newtonians did not end in the 1740’s. This real scientific duel, which lasted over half a century, was the heart of a broader way of thinking about physics which operated on several levels: Mathématization, Concepts, définitions, laws, the role of experimentation and hypotheses, …

Completely independent spanning trees in some regular graphs

2014

International audience; Let k >= 2 be an integer and T-1,..., T-k be spanning trees of a graph G. If for any pair of vertices {u, v} of V(G), the paths between u and v in every T-i, 1 <= i <= k, do not contain common edges and common vertices, except the vertices u and v, then T1,... Tk are completely independent spanning trees in G. For 2k-regular graphs which are 2k-connected, such as the Cartesian product of a complete graph of order 2k-1 and a cycle, and some Cartesian products of three cycles (for k = 3), the maximum number of completely independent spanning trees contained in these graphs is determined and it turns out that this maximum is not always k. Assessment of a high-resolution central scheme for the solution of the relativistic hydrodynamics equations

2004

We assess the suitability of a recent high-resolution central scheme developed by Kurganov & Tadmor (2000) for the solution of the relativistic hydrodynamics equations. The novelty of this approach relies on the absence of Riemann solvers in the solution procedure. The computations we present are performed in one and two spatial dimensions in Minkowski spacetime. Standard numerical experiments such as shock tubes and the relativistic flat-faced step test are performed. As an astrophysical application the article includes two-dimensional simulations of the propagation of relativistic jets using both Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates. The simulations reported clearly show the capabili…

Synthesis and antibacterial activities of cadiolides A, B and C and analogues

2015

International audience; The one-pot multicomponent synthesis of natural butenolides named cadiolides A, B, C and analogues has been realized. The antibacterial structure activity relationship shows that the presence of phenolic hydroxyl groups and the number and position of bromine atoms on the different aromatic rings are important features for antibacterial activity, besides it was demonstrated the tolerance of both benzene and furan ring at position 3 of the butenolide nucleus. Furthermore, none of the most relevant antibacterial compounds showed any cytotoxicity in freshly isolated human neutrophils.

Non-immune hydrops fetalis: Two case reports

2021

BACKGROUND Fetal hydrops is a serious condition difficult to manage, often with a poor prognosis, and it is characterized by the collection of fluid in the extravascular compartments. Before 1968, the most frequent cause was the maternal-fetal Rh incompatibility. Today, 90% of the cases are non-immune hydrops fetalis. Multiple fetal anatomic and functional disorders can cause non-immune hydrops fetalis and the pathogenesis is incompletely understood. Etiology varies from viral infections to heart disease, chromosomal abnormalities, hematological and autoimmune causes. CASE SUMMARY A 38-year-old pregnant woman has neck lymphoadenomegaly, fever, cough, tonsillar plaques at 14 wk of amenorrhea…

Boundary/Field Variational Principles for the Elastic Plastic Rate Problem

1991

An elastic-plastic continuous solid body under quasi-statically variable external actions is herein addressed in the hypoteses of rate-independent material model with dual internal variables and of infinitesimal displacements and strains. The related analysis problem for assigned rate actions is first formulated through a boundary/field integral equation approach, then is shown to be characterized by two variational principles, one of which is a stationarity theorem, the other a min-max one.
