CHANGES IN ALBINO RAT TESTICLE INTERSTITIAL CELLS AFTER PITUITARY STIMULATION IN VIVO WITH HeNe LASER
1995
Population I Leydig cells of the central part of the Albino rat testicle showed signs of increased but nonspecific activity in the entire series of experimental animals compared with sham irradiated controls (n = 30 in each group) after anterior pituitary stimulation with low incident energy levels of the HeNe laser at 632.8 nm with an incident power at the pituitary calculated as 2.75 ± 0.25 mW. The authors conclude that LLLT applied to the pituitary in the rat model at the parameters used in the present study may have an effect on testosterone production. Further quantitative and qualitative work is required to assess the significance of the increase in activity of type I Leydig cells and…
A research on the action of testosterone propionate and of ciproterone acetate on the mouse-killing behaviour of the adult rat.
1979
AbstractData demonstrate exactly that testosterone favour above all the killing behaviour of castrate males at birth in comparison with control males while ciproterone acetate turns out to be more effective in diminishing the killing behaviour of males having integral testicle and of androgenized females at birth in comparison with castrated males. The results point out that the killing behaviour of rats is affected by the presence of testosterone in the first days of life, and in the grown-up animal.
Effects of chronic treatment with testosterone propionate on aggression and hormonal levels in intact male mice.
1998
Effects of testosterone propionate, an anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS), on aggression in gonadally intact male mice were examined. Animals were given weekly injections of 3.75, 7.5, 15, and 30 mg/kg of drug or sesame oil for 10 weeks. During the last 3 weeks, behavioral tests were conducted and at the end of the experiment, body, liver and testes weight and hormonal data were collected. The treatment had minimal behavioral and endocrine effects. It resulted in shorter latencies of 'threat' only in the last agonistic encounter, increases in testosterone levels and decreases in testes weight in a non-linear dose-dependant way. The action of treatment was different on threat and attack, the …
Nuclear Medicine Methods in Scrotal Imaging
2011
In patients with acute scrotal pain scrotal scintigraphy can be used to exclude torsion of the testicle, which presents with unilateral decrease in activity on the affected side. The role of nuclear medicine methods, however, faded in the last years after the introduction of high performance color Doppler ultrasound equipment. Lymphoscintigraphy can be used in patients with testicular cancer to demonstrate the lymphatic drainage pathway of the neoplasm. Several studies suggest that 18FDG-PET/CT might have a role in the staging germ cell tumors, in identification of recurrent/residual disease, to monitor the treatment response and during the follow-up. Other investigations, however, did not c…
Two proteases from nuclei of rat testis cells. II. Inhibitors
1987
Abstract Proteases Rc and Kc of the nuclei of rat testis cells exhibit considerable differences in susceptibility to various protease inhibitors. Protease Rc is inhibited by D‐phenylalanyl‐L‐propyl‐L‐arginine chlormethylketone and p‐nitrophenyl‐p1‐guanidino ben‐zoate. Protease Kc is inhibited by Nα‐p‐tosyl‐L‐lysine chlormethylketone, N‐p‐tosyl‐phenylalanine chlormethylketone, N‐carbobenzoxy‐L‐phenylalanine chloromethylketone and p‐nitrophenyl‐p'‐guanidino‐benzoate. Neither protease is inhibited by 10 mM phenylmethanesulphonyl‐fluoride or p‐chloromercuri‐benzoate. p‐nitrophenyl‐p1‐guanidino‐benzoate is a substrate for protease Rc with release of p‐nitrophenol, however the protease activity i…
Changes in the motility patterns of spermatozoa from the rabbit epididymis as assessed by computer-aided sperm motion analysis
1996
Sperm maturation in the epididymis includes changes in their potential for motility that enables spermatozoa to reach the egg and penetrate its investments. The motility characteristics of spermatozoa from the testis, the epididymis, and vas deferens of the rabbit were investigated by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA). Various forms of motility were displayed by sperm from different regions of the epididymis released into incubation medium. Testicular sperm were motile, although nonprogressive. The maximum percentage motility was expressed by sperm in the proximal cauda epididymidis, and forward progression was developed by spermatozoa from the distal caput. Once forward progression w…
Predictors of testicular viability in testicular torsion
2007
Abstract Aim Testicular torsion (TT) requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to avoid testicular loss. Most studies have focused on the ideal work up to rule TT out in cases of acute scrotum. We attempted here to define objective criteria to select between orchidopexy and orchidectomy in patients undergoing surgery for TT. Patients and methods Fifteen boys with a median age at presentation of 7.8 (range 6.4–12) years undergoing surgical treatment for TT underwent color-Doppler ultrasound (CDU) preoperatively, and a bleeding test intraoperatively. Duration of preoperative history, degree of torsion, CDU findings and degree of bleeding were analyzed. Results Salvageability was independent of …
1583 Clinical and Ultrasound Examination after Unilateral Orchiopexy
2012
Aim To compare testis volume and ultrasound texture post unilateral orchiopexy with the other side. Methods Clinical re-examination and ultrasound measurement of testicle volume and echostructure were performed in 99 children after unilateral orchiopexy, performed between 2003 and 2007. Results Intraoperatively, 30 testis were described as hypoplastic. further 5 patients displayed pathologic funicular structures. On Follow-up clinical exam, 45 patients displayed a small or atrophic testis on the side of surgery. In 10 patients, the testis was described as bigger on the side of surgery. On ultrasound, 65 patients had similar pictures on the side of surgery compared to the other side. In the …
