Tracking mite trophic interactions by multiplex PCR

2020

Background A thorough knowledge of trophic webs in agroecosystems is essential to achieve successful biological pest control. Phytoseiid mites are the most efficient natural enemies of tetranychid mites, which include several important pests worldwide. Nevertheless, phytoseiids may feed on other food sources including other microarthropods, plants and even other phytoseiids (intraguild predation), which can interfere with biological control services. Molecular gut content analysis is a valuable tool for characterizing trophic interactions, mainly when working on microarthropods such as mites. We have designed new primers for Phytoseiidae, Tetranychidae and Thysanoptera identification and th…

Use of trans-labial ultrasound in the diagnosis of female urethral diverticula: A diagnostic option to be strongly considered.

2015

AIM: To demonstrate effectiveness of trans-labial ultrasound (TL-US) in the evaluation of female urethral diverticula (UD). METHODS: In the study period, 20 UD were diagnosed and treated. All data on demographic characteristics, presenting symptoms, physical examination findings, diagnostic and operative procedures, were considered. Patients were referred to TL-US for diverticular evaluation, using a 2D 7.5-MHz endfire probe. For each UD, size, complexity, echogenicity content, and presence of diverticular neck were considered. Follow-up controls were carried out at 1, 6 and 12 months after surgery, to evaluate outcome and need for further intervention. RESULTS: Mean patient age was 46 year…

MR Imaging of Uterus Didelphys Transverse Vaginal Septum Causing Hematometrocolpos and Renal Agenesis

2002

The association of uterus didelphys and unilateral blind vagina with ipsilateral renal agenesis is an infrequent urogenital malformation distinguished by a lesion of the mesonephric duct. In most patients, symptoms are present at the beginning of the menstrual cycle because a transverse vaginal septum on one side obstructs the flow of menses, which consequently collect. Magnetic resonance imaging allows a precise delineation of this congenital abnormality, clearly demonstrating the transverse vaginal septum with hematometrocolpos and uterus didelphys. Extending the magnetic resonance study to the abdomen and employing coronal sections with a wide field of view is important to search for ass…

TENSION FREE CYSTOCELE REPAIR. FOUR YEARS FOLLOW-UP

2003

Aims of study: Anterior vaginal wall descensus is one of the most frequent alteration in patients with pelvic defects. At least 50% of women that had delivered two or more times presented a certain degree of this pathologic alteration of the anatomy, even thought only 10-20% of the patients complained of associated pains. The use of synthetic biocompatible materials has become more common in gynecology surgery(1)-(3). Polypropylene mesh to be proposed as a mean of surgical correction of moderate severe cystocele (Cervigni 1998)(2) Methods: 97 patients aged 42-75, parity 1-5, body weight 45-90, menopause 41 pts. (61%).Irritative sintoms( nocturia, frequency, urgency, dysuria and urge inconti…

Female reproductive factors are associated with objectively measured physical activity in middle-aged women

2017

Physical activity improves health and may delay the onset of several chronic diseases. For women in particular, the rate of these diseases accelerates at middle age; therefore it is important to identify the determinants of health-enhancing physical activity during midlife in this population. In this study, we focused on determinants that are unique to the female sex, such as childbearing and menopause. The main objective was to characterize the level of physical activity and differences between active and inactive middle-aged Finnish women. In addition, we examined the association of physical activity with female reproductive factors at midlife. The study population consisted of 647 women …

Perimenopausal women show modulation of excitatory and inhibitory neuromuscular mechanisms.

2021

Background Menopausal transition exposes women to an early decline in muscle force and motor function. Changes in muscle quality and function, especially in lower limbs, are crucial, as they expose individuals to increased risk of falls. To elucidate some of the related neuromuscular mechanisms, we investigated cortical inhibition and peripheral muscle twitch force potentiation in women during the early and late stages of perimenopause. Methods Participants were 63 women aged 48–55 years categorized as early (EP, n = 25) or late (LP, n = 38) perimenopausal according to serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels and menstrual diaries. EP women had an irregular menstrual cycle and FSH  2…

Preeklampsi i Fit for fødsel

2016

Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background:Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy, affectingtwo to eight percentages of all pregnanciesworldwide. Important aspects of the causal mechanisms of preeclampsia are still unknown. It is however reason to believe that preeclampsia consists of several subtypes and various causal mechanisms canbe involved. The role of obesity, excessive gestational weight gain and maternal diet in the risk of preeclampsia has recently received increased attention.Thesis question:Are there differences regarding gestational weight gain, select blood sample parametres and dietary habits between primiparous women who develop pr…

Centrālo venozo katetru potenciālās aprūpes problēmas un risinājumi intensīvās terapijas nodaļā

2019

Pētījuma instrumenti- no…
