ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of Bis(μ-hydroxo)bis((2,2′-bipyridyl)copper(II)) Squarate. Crystal Structure of Bis(μ-hydroxo)…
1990
Abstract The compound [Cu2(bipy)2(OH)2](C4O4)·5.5H2O, where bipy and C4O42− correspond to 2,2′-bipyridyl and squarate (dianion of 3,4-dihydroxy-3-cyclo- butene-1,3-dione) respectively, has been synthesized. Its magnetic properties have been investigated in the 2–300 K temperature range. The ground state is a spin-triplet state, with a singlet-triplet separation of 145 cm−1. The EPR powder spectrum confirms the nature of the ground state. Well-formed single crystals of the tetrahydrate, [Cu2(bipy)2(OH)2](C4O4)·4H2O, were grown from aqueous solutions and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The system is triclinic, space group P 1 , with a = 9.022(2), b = 9.040(2), c = 8.409(2) A, α = 103.51(2…
Efficient ultraviolet-light energy dissipation by an aromatic ketone.
2010
Experimental evidence on the efficiency of 2,2'4,4'-tetramethoxybenzil for UV-light energy dissipation is provided. This non-phenolic aromatic ketone has a low energy triplet which quickly decays to the ketone ground state, thus avoiding the generation of undesirable reactive species. A theory ofnonverticaltriplet energy transfer in terms of accurate potential energy surfaces: The transfer reaction from π,π* triplet donors to 1,3,5…
2004
Triplet energy transfer (TET) from aromatic donors to 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene (COT) is an extreme case of "nonvertical" behavior, where the transfer rate for low-energy donors is considerably faster than that predicted for a thermally activated (Arrhenius) process. To explain the anomalous TET of COT and other molecules, a new theoretical model based on transition state theory for nonadiabatic processes is proposed here, which makes use of the adiabatic potential energy surfaces (PES) of reactants and products, as computed from high-level quantum mechanical methods, and a nonadiabatic transfer rate constant. It is shown that the rate of transfer depends on a geometrical distortion paramet…
Self-diffusion of silicon in molybdenum disilicide
2004
The self-diffusion of silicon in single crystal MoSi2 was studied by means of a radiotracer technique using the short-lived radioisotope 31Si (half-life ), which was produced and implanted into the samples at the ion-guide isotope separator on-line device at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. Diffusion annealing and subsequent serial sectioning of the specimens were performed immediately after the radiotracer implantation. In the entire temperature region investigated (835–1124 K), the 31Si diffusivities in both principal directions of the tetragonal MoSi2 crystals obey Arrhenius laws, where the diffusion perpendicular to the tetragonal axis is faster than parallel to it. In previous s…

The anionic polymerization of tert-butyl methacrylate (TBMA) in tetrahydrofuran, using Na+ and Cs+ as counterions proceeds without side reactions even at room temperature. The resulting molecular weight distributions are nearly monodisperse (Mw/Mn ⩽ 1,01). The rate constants for the propagation of ion pairs were measured in the range from + 15 to −100°C. The Arrhenius plots are linear, but different for the two counterions, resulting in the following numerical values for the frequency exponent A and the activation energy Ea: A = 8,5 and Ea = 7,2 kcal/mol = 30 kJ/mol for Na+; A = 9,5 and Ea = 5,6 kcal/mol = 23 kJ/mol for Cs+. The difference between the counterions, which is in contrast to th…
Calcium sulfate and PTFE nonporous barrier for regeneration of experimental bone defects
2008
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T18:55:46Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-06-01 The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility to obtain guided bone regeneration with two types of physical barriers (calcium sulfate and PTFE nonporous barrier) in surgical defects created in rat parietal bones. In the right parietal bone the calcium sulfate barrier filled out the whole defect and in the left parietal bone the barrier of PTFE was positioned in the floor and externally to the surgical defect. After 7, 14, 30 and 45 days four animals were sacrificed in each period and the bone containing the defects were submitted to the microscopic analysis. The results of the…
Non-adrenergic non-cholinergic nerve-mediated inhibitory control of pigeon oesophageal muscle.
1996
Pigeon oesophageal smooth muscle in vitro has spontaneous electromechanical activity. In the presence of atropine and guanethidine, electrical field stimulation evokes a transient TTX-sensitive response comprising inhibition of electric bursting activity and muscular relaxation. This NANC inhibitory response was analysed using the K+ channel blockers TEA and apamin, TEA perfusion (0.1-5 mM) induced a concentration-dependent reduction in amplitude of EFS-evoked relaxation. Responses to higher stimulation frequencies were more sensitive to TEA than those to lower ones. The maximum reduction in amplitude (29% of control) was obtained on 30 Hz EFS evoked responses during 5 mM TEA perfusion. In …
Modulation by oxotremorine and atropine of acetylcholine release evoked by electrical stimulation of the myenteric plexus of the guinea-pig ileum
1977
1. The effects of oxotremorine and atropine on the release of acetylcholine from longitudinal muscle strips of the guinea-pig ileum stimulated at frequencies between 0.1 and 3 Hz in the presence of eserine were investigated. In control experiments the acetylcholine output per stimulus declined with increasing frequencies of stimulation. 2. Oxotremorine inhibited the release of acetylcholine in a concentration-dependent fashion. At a concentration of 10−6 M oxotremorine, the release evoked by 0.1 Hz was reduced by 54%. With increasing frequencies of stimulation the inhibitory effect of oxotremorine became smaller. 3. Atropine enhanced the output of acetylcholine evoked by electrical stimulat…

A near-tetrapod from the Baltic Middle Devonian
2000
The tetrapodomorph sarcopterygian Livoniana multidentata gen. et sp. nov. is described on the basis of lower jaw fragments from the Middle Devonian(late Givetian) of Latvia and Estonia. It possesses a suite of derived characters previously only known from tetrapods, which first appear in the late Devonian (late Frasnian), and a phylogenetic analysis places it on the internode between Panderichthys and the base of the Tetrapoda. The analysis also reveals that the ‘Elpistostegalia’ are paraphyletic to Tetrapoda, with Elpistostege closer to tetrapods than is Panderichthys. Owing to incompleteness of the material, there is almost no overlap between the data sets for ElpistostegeLivoniana; the a…
