Recyclable Catalyst Reservoir: Oxidation of Alcohols Mediated by Noncovalently Supported Bis(imidazolium)-Tagged 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine 1-Oxyl
2013
Bis(imidazolium)-tagged 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPO) catalysts were adsorbed on different supports such as silica gel, silica gel modified with highly cross-linked polymeric imidazolium networks, and highly cross-linked polymeric imidazolium networks entrapping magnetic particles. These systems provided a convenient tool for the oxidation of both primary and secondary alcohols working as recyclable reservoirs for the bis(imidazolium)-tagged TEMPO catalysts. By using EPR spectroscopy it was demonstrated that the catalyst was released as the corresponding oxoammonium salt in the solution during the recycling step, thus promoting the oxidative process in a homogeneous fashion. …
Improving the photocatalytic H2 evolution activity of Keggin polyoxometalates anchoring copper-azole complexes
2021
Eliminating the use of precious metals as cocatalysts and using visible light are two important aspects in the field of photocatalytic H2 evolution with polyoxometalates (POMs) as photosensitizers. Here we present two new POM-based materials: [CuII5(2-ptz)6(H2O)4(GeW12O40)]·4H2O (1) and [CuI2(ppz)4][H2GeW12O40]·8H2O (2) (2-ptz = 5-(2-pyridyl) tetrazole, ppz = 3-(pyrid-4-yl) pyrazole) synthesized with the Keggin type [GeW12O40]4− (GeW12) polyanion and copper-azole complexes. The optimum photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of compound 1 without a noble metal cocatalyst is 3813 μmol g−1 h−1, which is 7.6 times higher than that of compound 2 and more than 27 times higher than that of bare GeW12 po…
Validation of the Tetracycline Regulatable Gene Expression System for the Study of the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease
2011
Understanding the pathogenesis of infectious disease requires the examination and successful integration of parameters related to both microbial virulence and host responses. As a practical and powerful method to control microbial gene expression, including in vivo, the tetracycline-regulatable system has recently gained the favor of many investigative groups. However, some immunomodulatory effects of the tetracyclines, including doxycycline, could potentially limit its use to evaluate host responses during infection. Here we have used a well-established murine model of disseminated candidiasis, which is highly dependent on both the virulence displayed by the fungal cells and on the host im…
Réponses des cellules de Nicotiana tabacum à des molécules microbiennes : évènements de signalisation précoce, influence de la dynamique membranaire …
2018
In their natural environment plants are in close interaction with beneficial, neutral, or pathogenic microbes, which are highly dependent on carbon resources exuded by plant roots. Sugar transport, which is a key process of plant physiology, is essential to support the fate of plant-microbe interactions. During evolution, plants have acquired the ability to perceive microbial molecules, initiating specific signal transduction cascades and leading to adapted response for microbe lifestyles (avirulent, virulent, or benefic). Plant survival will depend on the nature of the induced mechanisms. My PhD work, carried out on a simplified experimental system, contributes to the understanding of mech…
Hydrogen bond-stabilised N-alkylammonium resorcinarene halide cavitands
2010
A family of hydrogen bond-stabilised N-alkylammonium resorcinarene chloride and bromide cavitands were synthesised and characterised with 1H NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. The seven compounds exhibit interestingly either self-inclusion or guest complexation in the solid state evidenced by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The four dimers show self-inclusion of the upper rim propyl chains and consist of two hydrogen-bonded resorcinarene tetracations and six halide anions, while the remaining two halide anions are located in between the dimers linking them via hydrogen bonding. Small solvent molecules such as dichloromethane, methanol, n-butanol or chloroform are complexed into the resorcinar…
Similarity and Specificity of Chlorophyll b Triplet State in Comparison to Chlorophyll a as Revealed by EPR/ENDOR and DFT Calculations
2019
An investigation of the photoexcited triplet state of chlorophyll (Chl) b has been carried out by means of electron nuclear double resonance, both in a frozen organic solvent and in a protein environment provided by the water-soluble chlorophyll protein of Lepidium virginicum. Density functional theory calculations have allowed the complete assignment of the observed hyperfine couplings corresponding to the methine protons and the methyl groups, leading to a complete picture of the spin density distribution of the triplet state in the tetrapyrrole macrocycle. The triplet-state properties of Chl b are found to be similar, in many respects, to those previously reported for Chl a, although som…
Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance of Chlorophyll Triplet States in Water-Soluble Chlorophyll Proteins from Lepidium virginicum: Evidence for Exci…
2018
Optically detected magnetic resonance of triplet states populated by photoexcitation in water-soluble chlorophyll proteins (WSCPs) from Lepidium virginicum has been performed using both absorption and fluorescence detection. Well resolved triplet-singlet (T-S) spectra have been obtained and interpreted in terms of electronic interactions among the four chlorophylls (Chls), forming two dimers in the WSCP tetramer. Localization of the triplet state on a single Chl leads to a redistribution of the oscillator strength in the remaining three Chls of the complex. By comparing the spectra with those obtained on a substoichiometric WSCP complex containing only 2 Chls per protein tetramer, we proved…
Water-Soluble Chlorophyll Protein (WSCP) Stably Binds Two or Four Chlorophylls
2017
Water-soluble chlorophyll proteins (WSCPs) of class IIa from Brassicaceae form tetrameric complexes containing one chlorophyll (Chl) per apoprotein but no carotenoids. The complexes are remarkably stable toward dissociation and protein denaturation even at 100 °C and extreme pH values, and the Chls are partially protected against photooxidation. There are several hypotheses that explain the biological role of WSCPs, one of them proposing that they function as a scavenger of Chls set free upon plant senescence or pathogen attack. The biochemical properties of WSCP described in this paper are consistent with the protein acting as an efficient and flexible Chl scavenger. At limiting Chl concen…
Water soluble chlorophyll binding protein of higher plants: A most suitable model system for basic analyses of pigment–pigment and pigment–protein in…
2011
Abstract This short review paper describes spectroscopic studies on pigment–pigment and pigment–protein interactions of chlorophyll (Chl) a and b bound to the recombinant protein of class IIa water soluble chlorophyll protein (WSCP) from cauliflower. Two Chls form a strongly excitonically coupled open sandwich dimer within the tetrameric protein matrix. In marked contrast to the mode of excitonic coupling of Chl and bacterio-Chl molecules in light harvesting complexes and reaction centers of all photosynthetic organisms, the unique structural pigment array in the Chl dimer of WSCP gives rise to an upper excitonic state with a large oscillator strength. This property opens the way for thorou…
