Measurement of the ttbar cross section using high-multiplicity jet events

2010

We present a measurement of the ttbar cross section using high-multiplicity jet events produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. These data were recorded at the Fermilab Tevatron collider with the D0 detector. Events with at least six jets, two of them identified as b jets, were selected from a 1 fb-1 data set. The measured cross section, assuming a top quark mass of 175 GeV/c^2, is 6.9 \pm 2.0 pb, in agreement with theoretical expectations.

Direct search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks

2001

We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of pair-produced top quarks in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using 62.2 pb^-1 of data recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No evidence is found for signal, and we exclude at 95% confidence most regions of the (M higgs, tan beta) parameter space where the decay t->H b has a branching fraction greater than 0.36 and B(H -> tau nu) is large.

Evidence for production of single top quarks and first direct measurement of |Vtb|.

2007

The D0 Collaboration presents first evidence for the production of single top quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. Using a 0.9 fb^-1 dataset, we apply a multivariate analysis to separate signal from background and measure sigma(ppbar->tb+X,tqb+X) = 4.9 +- 1.4 pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of signal is 0.035%, corresponding to a 3.4 standard deviation significance. We use the cross section measurement to directly determine the CKM matrix element that describes the Wtb coupling and find 0.68 < |Vtb| <= 1 at 95% C.L. within the standard model.

Search for the Associated Production of the Standard-Model Higgs Boson in the All-Hadronic Channel

2009

We report on a search for the standard-model Higgs boson in pp collisions at s=1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb(-1). We look for production of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of bottom quarks in association with a vector boson V (W or Z) decaying to quarks, resulting in a four-jet final state. Two of the jets are required to have secondary vertices consistent with B-hadron decays. We set the first 95% confidence level upper limit on the VH production cross section with V(-> qq/qq('))H(-> bb) decay for Higgs boson masses of 100-150 GeV/c(2) using data from run II at the Fermilab Tevatron. For m(H)=120 GeV/c(2), we exclude cross sections larger than 38 times the standard-m…

Search for a Fourth Generationt′Quark inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2011

We present a search for pair production of a fourth generation t' quark and its antiparticle, followed by their decays to a W boson and a jet, based on an integrated luminosity of 5.3/fb of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits on the t't'bar production cross section that exclude at the 95% C.L. a t' quark that decays exclusively to W+jet with a mass below 285 GeV. We observe a small excess in the muon+jets channel which reduces the mass range excluded compared to the expected limit of 320 GeV in the absence of a signal.

Measurement of the Effective Weak Mixing Angle in pp¯→Z/γ*→ℓ+ℓ− Events

2018

We present a measurement of the effective weak mixing angle parameter sin(2)theta(l)(eff) in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma* -> mu(+)mu(-) events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and corresponding to 8.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The measured value of sin(2)theta(l)(eff)[mu mu] = 0.23016 +/- 0.00064 is further combined with the result from the D0 measurement in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma* -> e(+)e(-) events, resulting in sin(2)theta(l)(eff)[comb] = 0.23095 +/- 0.00040. This combined result is the most precise measurement from a single experiment at a hadron collider and is the most precise determination using the couplin…

Search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks

2009

We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks, in the mass range $80 < m_{H^{\pm} < 155$ GeV, assuming the subsequent decay $H^{+} \to ^{+} _$ (and its charge conjugate). Using 0.9 fb$^{-1}$ of lepton+jets data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider, operating at a center of mass energy $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, we find no evidence for a $H^{\pm}$ signal. Hence, we exclude branching ratios $B(t \to H^+b) > 0.24$ for $m_{H^{\pm}=80$ GeV, and $B(t \to H^+b) > 0.19$ for $m_{H^{\pm}=155$ GeV, at the 95% C.L.

Search for First-Generation Scalar and Vector Leptoquarks

2001

We describe a search for the pair production of first-generation scalar and vector leptoquarks in the eejj and enujj channels by the D0 Collaboration. The data are from the 1992--1996 ppbar run at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We find no evidence for leptoquark production; in addition, no kinematically interesting events are observed using relaxed selection criteria. The results from the eejj and enujj channels are combined with those from a previous D0 analysis of the nunujj channel to obtain 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the leptoquark pair-production cross section as a function of mass and of beta, the branching fraction to a charged lepton. These lim…

Search for third generation vector leptoquarks inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2008

We search for a third generation vector leptoquark (VLQ3) that decays to a b quark and tau lepton using the CDF II detector and 320pb-1 of integrated luminosity from the Fermilab Tevatron. Observing a number of events in agreement with standard model expectations, we obtain, assuming Yang-Mills (minimal) couplings, the most stringent upper limit on the VLQ3 pair production cross section of 344 fb (493 fb) and lower limit on the VLQ3 mass of 317GeV/c2 (251GeV/c2) at 95% C.L. © 2008 The American Physical Society.
