I risultati della ricerca per Silknow. Tessuti inediti dai Musei Ecclesiastici della Sicilia orientale
2021
Anticipation of the results of the research conducted at some ecclesiastical museums in eastern Sicily as part of the Horizon 2020 Silknow project. Review of textile artefacts from the 16th to the 18th century both locally produced (Sicily / Italy) and French manufacturing
Inverse Malthusianism and Recycling Economics: The Case of the Textile Industry
2020
The current use of natural resources in the textile industry leads us to introduce a new economic concept called inverse Malthusianism describing a context in which population grows linearly and resource consumption grows exponentially. Inverse Malthusianism implies an exponential increase in environmental impact that recycling may contribute to reduce. Our main goal is to extend the analysis of materials selection under the principle of equimarginality proposed by Jevons. As a first result, we show the particular circumstances under which policies excluding recycled supplies are never optimal. We also aim to overcome the difficulties of reducing environmental aspects to monetary units. To …
Modern laser technologies used for cutting textile materials
2006
With modern laser technologies we can cut multiple layers at once, yielding high production levels and short setup times between cutting runs. One example could be the operation of cutting the material named Nylon 66, used to manufacture automobile airbags. With laser, up to seven layers of Nylon 66 can be cut in one pass, that means high production rates on a single machine. Airbags must be precisely crafted piece of critical safety equipment that is built to very high levels of precision in a mass production environment. Of course, synthetic material, used for airbags, can be cut also by a conventional fixed blade system, but for a high production rates and a long term low-maintenance, la…
The Dynamic Evolution of the Proximity Effect in the Textile Industry
2011
This paper tests the evolution of the relationship between localization and proximity and their effect on firm performance for a sample of 10,490 Spanish textile firms in the period 2001–2006. Using coefficients of specialization two levels of geographical disaggregation are distinguished: (i) the provincial cluster and (ii) the industrial district. The results obtained show a positive and significant impact of the specialization level on productivity, both for industrial districts and provincial clusters (in this case only when the levels of specialization are high enough). In general, the effect is higher for industrial districts than for provincial clusters, although in both cases it dec…
Transnational textile outsourcing: exceptional or standard
2021
The aim of this investigation is to quantitatively analyse the new methods of production and organisation in the textile business. Free flow of funds together with textile hyper-consumption have led to organisational models based on processes of externalisation, outsourcing, export, internationalisation and so on. Because of the transverse nature of the study subject, as well as the opportunities and asymmetries generated in the textile industry, a Delphi analysis is proposed as a way to analyse this new paradigm. A panel of 55 experts were given multidisciplinary questionnaires and their responses were studied, taking into account the degree of affinity (test) of the statements posed in or…
Globalization and its impact on operational decisions
2009
PurposeThis paper aims to analyse the impact of globalization on the manufacturing operations of industries and industrial districts and how it influences the specialization and diversification of manufacturing decisions.Design/methodology/approachThe sample includes 9,684 Spanish manufacturing textile firms and the analysis is both cross‐sectional and longitudinal.FindingsThe results show that globalization tends to diminish the district and subsector effects over time, but they also show the positive impact of specialization on productivity and of diversification on business growth.Originality/valueThe paper indicates to managers that the production function in textile firms has viability…
Market orientation and innovation: an inter‐relationship analysis
2005
PurposeMarket orientation analyses have focused on two broad‐ranging approaches: the behavioural and the philosophical. The concepts of innovation and market orientation are gaining ground steadily in the context of an increasingly competitive and highly volatile environment, subject to the pressures of rapid‐changing customer needs and desires. This premise underlies the general aim of this study, which is to determine to what extent companies operating in the same sector and with similar market orientation are similarly concerned about innovation.Design/methodology/approachThe population for this study comprises the leading 465 textile companies operating in Spain, listed in the ARDAN dat…
Novel method for functionalising and patterning textile composites:Liquid resin print
2016
Abstract The paper reports a novel method of integrating resin into continuous textile reinforcement. The method presents a print of liquid reactive resin into textile preforms. A series of targeted injections forms a patch which upon consolidation and curing transforms into a stiff region continuously spanning through preform thickness. Enhancing the injected resin with conductive phase allows creating a pattern of patches with controlled dimensions and added functionalities. Patterned composites reveal features which are not typical for conventional composites such as fibre bridged interfaces, regular thickness variation, and gradient matrix properties. The presented study explores the ro…
Experimental Studies Regarding Mechanical Behaviour of Textile Reinforcements Laminated Composite Materials
2013
The aim of this paper is to determine the mechanical properties of textile reinforcements laminated composite material and to establish the influence of thickness about these properties. The composite material used for this is a laminated sheet of HGW 2082. In order to study the mechanical behaviour of these kinds of materials we select two experimental tests: uniaxial test and bending test. For the uniaxial test we have measured the maximum load, the maximum extension, the maximum tensile stress and the maximum tensile strain. Also, using an optical extensometer we measured the major and the minor strains. For the bending test we measured the maximum load and the maximum bending deflection…
