An antique lead coffin discovered in Évreux (Eure): a multidisciplinary study

The Roman cemetery of le Clos au Duc in Évreux (Eure) lasted from the 1st to the 4th c. AD. The most common funerary practice in the 1st c. AD was cremation. From the beginning of the 2nd c. AD this rapidly gave place to inhumation burials. By the end of the 3rd c. lead coffins could be found in burials, but it remained a minority practice reserved for an elite. The 2010 excavation in Évreux allowed the recovery of an example of these. It was incomplete, but the good preservation of its remains made a multidisciplinary study possible. In Latvia textile industry workers suffer from work-related muscular skeletal disorders (WRMSD). The aim of the research is to study the causes of WRMSDs for the tailor’s profession in a medium- sized enterprise. This research involved 120 tailors. Modified Standardized Nordic questionnaire, Borg Scale of Perceived Exertion, Key indicator method was used for analysis of physical workload during manual handling operations. Main survey results show that tailors suffer from pain in shoulders, wrists and fingers, have repetitive arm movements in sitting compulsory work position. Understanding how a specific exercise changes daily activity patterns is important when designing physical activity interventions. We examined the effects of strength and interval running exercise sessions on daily activity patterns using recordings of quadriceps and hamstring muscle electromyographic (EMG) activity and inactivity. Durability of a 3D woven composite assisted by finite element multi-scale modelling

International audience; The textile composite studied is a 3D woven composite. A unit cell is defined by using microscopic examinations of the microstructure. A multiscale approach assisted by the finite element method is performed in order to estimate the effective properties of the composite and then to access to local stress field. This approach allows the determination of the kind of load to which warp yarns are subjected. Moreover, detailed analysis of damaged model using different configurations of broken yarns are treated. The evolution of the stress concentration coefficient highlight the load transfers due to consecutive yarn breaks.

Impact of Different Washing Conditions on the Release of Ag Species from Textiles

The paper investigates the Ag release from textiles (socks available in shops, cotton and viscose filled with Ag nanoparticles–AgNPs) into a washing solution under different conditions. The released Ag amount depended on various factors, such as test media (chemical composition, temperature and water volume), metal contents, and textile impregnation conditions. Furthermore, it turned out that the textile type and colour were the main parameters affecting the Ag release. The Ag concentration in the washing solution ranged between 0.015 μg/l and 4.44 μg/l (socks) and between 0.61 μg/l and 103 μg/l (AgNPs–filled cotton). The present work describes the experimental mechanical characterisation of a natural flax fibre reinforced epoxy polymer composite. A commercial plain woven quasi-unidirectional flax fabric with spun-twisted yarns is employed in particular, as well as unidirectional composite panels manufactured with three techniques: hand-lay-up, vacuum bagging and resin infusion. The stiffness and strength behaviours are investigated under both monotonic and low-cycle fatigue loadings. The recent decision to convert the Benedictine Dormitory in Monreale into an exhibition site offers the opportunity to enjoy the whole monumental complex where the wonderful cloister is the core attraction. It is on this site that the Norman Cathedral stands, brightly decorated with golden mosaics.
