Torre para comunicaciones y prácticas de bomberos en la Eliana, Valencia. España
1992
The article brings the description of the characteristics of the project and the execution of the work on a communication tower which should also serve for practices of fire brigades and which has a water tank in the base.
Simplified technique for constitutive analysis of SFRC
2014
Steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) has become widespread material in areas such as underground shotcrete structures and industrial floors. However, due to the absence of material models of SFRC reliable for numerical analysis, application fields of this material are still limited. Due to interaction of concrete with fibres, a cracked section is able to carry a significant portion of tensile stresses, called the residual stresses. In present practices, residual stresses used for strength, deflection and crack width analysis are quantified by means of standard tests. However, interpretation of these test results is based on approximation using empirically deduced relationships, adequacy o…
A numerical solution that determines the temperature field inside phase change materials: application in buildings
2013
The use of novel building materials that contain active thermal components would be a major advancement in achieving significant heating and cooling energy savings. In the last 40 years, Phase Change Materials or PCMs have been tested as thermal mass components in buildings, and most studies have found that PCMs enhance the building energy performance. The use of PCMs as an energy storage device is due to their relatively high fusion latent heat; during the melting and/or solidification phase, a PCM is capable of storing or releasing a large amount of energy. PCMs in a wall layer store solar energy during the warmer hours of the day and release it during the night, thereby decreasing and sh…

LFA-1 Contributes to Signal I of T-Cell Activation and to the Production of Th1 Cytokines
2010
The beta(2) integrins are important for both transendothelial migration of leukocytes and T-cell activation during antigen presentation. In T cells, triggering of leukocyte functional antigen-1 (LFA-1) is required for full activation and T-helper (Th)1/Th2 differentiation. We used CD18-deficient (CD18(-/-)) mice to examine the role of LFA-1 in the activation of T cells. Compared with wild-type controls, CD18(-/-) T cells proliferated normally when stimulated with antibodies against CD3 and CD28, but secreted significantly less IFN-gamma and IL-2 than their wild-type counterparts. However, when T cells were stimulated with dendritic cells (DCs) that provide additional LFA-1 ligation, the pro…
Allergological implication of the quaternary hexameric structure of the cockroach allergen Per a 3.
2007
Summary Background Cockroach allergens play a very important role in allergic diseases, especially asthma. The major allergen of the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), Per a 3, naturally occurs as isoforms of hexamers. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate whether the hexameric structures of Per a 3 influence their allergenicity and immunogenicity. Methods Therefore, we compared the different effects of native hexamers and dissociated monomers of cockroach haemolymph (HL), containing almost only Per a 3 proteins (HL-Per a 3), on proliferation and T-helper type 1 (Th1)/Th2 cytokine production of human CD4+ T cells in co-culture with allergen-pulsed monocyte-derived auto…
SOCS3 transactivation by PPARγ prevents IL-17-driven cancer growth.
2013
Abstract Activation of the transcription factor PPARγ by the n-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is implicated in controlling proinflammatory cytokine secretion, but the intracellular signaling pathways engaged by PPARγ are incompletely characterized. Here, we identify the adapter-encoding gene SOCS3 as a critical transcriptional target of PPARγ. SOCS3 promoter binding and gene transactivation by PPARγ was associated with a repression in differentiation of proinflammatory T-helper (TH)17 cells. Accordingly, TH17 cells induced in vitro displayed increased SOCS3 expression and diminished capacity to produce interleukin (IL)-17 following activation of PPARγ by DHA. Furthermore, naïve CD4…
Induction of cytokine production in naive CD4+ T cells by antigen-presenting murine liver sinusoidal endothelial cells but failure to induce differen…
1999
Abstract Background & Aims: Murine liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) constitutively express accessory molecules and can present antigen to memory Th1 CD4+ T cells. Using a T-cell receptor transgenic mouse line, we addressed the question whether LSECs can prime naive CD4+ T cells. Methods: Purified LSECs were investigated for their ability to induce activation and differentiation of naive CD4+ T cells in comparison with bone marrow–derived antigen-presenting cells and macrovascular endothelial cells. Activation of T cells was determined by cytokine production. LSECs were further studied for expression of interleukin (IL)-12 by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction, and the…
The role of Th1/Th2 polarization in mucosal immunity
2002
Mucosal immunity relies on the delicate balance between antigen responsiveness and tolerance. The polarization of T helper cells plays a key role in maintaining or disrupting this equilibrium.
Effects of glycation of the model food allergen ovalbumin on antigen uptake and presentation by human dendritic cells.
2010
Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) of food proteins resulting from the Maillard reaction after cooking or heating may have particular importance in food allergy. The underlying immunological mechanisms are only poorly understood. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of AGE derived from the model food allergen ovalbumin (AGE-OVA) on dendritic cells (DCs), their immunostimulatory capacity and the T-cell response compared with regular OVA. For this purpose, human immature DCs were exposed to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelled AGE-OVA and FITC-labelled regular OVA and uptake was analysed by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. Furthermore, autologous CD4(+) T-cell p…
